Title: Simple strike and rest with some pics again.
Post by: DuBois on April 18, 2013, 10:28:45 pm
See new pics below.
I'm sure this isn't new but I hadn't seen it anywhere else so I thought I'd post it.

I mark where I want the rest and then glue the leather with the finish side against the wood just a bit below where I want it to adjust for the cord wrap thickness once it is wrapped over the leather.

Then I soaked the sisal twine in TBIII, tucked one end under, and then wrapped it over the leather (twice in this case), where I wanted the rest to be. Then on down to make the handle wrap. I left it flapping until the bow was fully finished and then glued it down for the strike and rest with super glue.
I hope someone else likes this method. Here is one other bow I did this on.

Thanks for lookin'
Doob

No I haven't seen this one. Pretty simple looking, I'll have to give it a try, thanks for posting.

Nice. I may use this on an upcoming bow. I need to get back to the simple things. They are the ones I admire the most.

yep, nice and simple...good idea....does it see to be "plenty" of arrow rest?
I do notice my sinew wrapped arrows are a little rough on the wood at the handle area ...especially on hackberry.

It gives about 1/4" but it is a little rounded as it wraps the cord. I got the black one to wrap around the corner of the bow a little onto the belly so it pads the wood just a bit. I kinda like not much of a rest. I think a guy could wrap a few more times under the leather or even put a little wedge in there to boost it out a bit if he wanted. I just liked how it was secured with the cord but I am just sort of experimenting(making it up as I go more like) ::)

That looks really clean when you're done, too.  If you wanted a little more for the arrow to rest on, could you maybe just leave more length in the folded part of the leather instead of gluing it down tight?

Going to steal this for sure.  =)

Nice paint by the way.

Thread resurrection!  Are these pictures still around anywhere to be re-posted?  I added this to my bookmarks but it'd be nice to have the visuals.  I guess it's time to start downloading these pages for reference just in case.

this is why I hate when people use photobucket! Why not just download directly to the site? Mod's ,..... can we make this happen? ........before half of the archives are without pics. A lot of useful ???  info is being lost  ??? :(.
