Title: The Phoenix
Post by: RBLusthaus on April 23, 2013, 12:57:15 am
I received this bow a few weeks ago in the 2013 bow trade from Ryan Yoon and I could not be happier.  It shoots fast and hard, and is a joy to  look at.  Although the hay bale I have been shooting at is gettin a little soft in the middle, Te Phoenix buries the feathers on a 625 gr arrow.  Hickory, 47 pounds at 28 inches, with a trapped back and what looks like a heat treated belly, with some of the smallest tips I have seen on a self bow.  The dye job is obvioulsy masterful.
Ryan - - thank you - -  I hope these pictures do your (my) bow justice.

Now for my questions - -  What are those pins that are imbedded as a strike plate and at the tips?  Cut off brass  nails or something?  How on earth were you able to dye the bow like that without all the different colors running into each other?

Russ

I'm so glad you like it! The dots are some brass rod I had and I drilled holes to glue them in. The dye didn't run very much and blended well with some work. Definitely one of the most fun bows I've made. Enjoy! :)

I was fortunate enough to get to shoot that beauty a couple weeks back. I can tell you the pics don't do it justice and it flings an arrow with authority. You're indeed fortunate Russ. Beautiful job Ryan.

Nice one, Ryan! It's nice to see the break from traditional finishes. Always count on you to think outside the box (or bow!) Congrats Russ!
