Here's a new one I just finished up...
62" NtN, 50# @ 28", Bamboo backed Ipe, with diamondback rattler skins. Hill style handle, with yellowheart accent and poplar grip. 1.25" at the handle and fades, tapering to 1/2" nocks.
I name all my bows, and this one is dubbed "Patience," because that's what she tested. Almost lost her a couple times... first handle popped off, tillered through a hinge, lifted a splinter.
My bows seem to be getting shorter these days. I'm not building many bows over 66" lately. Just much easier to carry when out hunting, and the shorter bows sure shoot fast. A little harder to tiller, but worth the effort.

Sweet bow, looks good all over. Can't get over how much them snake skins add to the look, the handle looks soft and cushy like you could use it for a pillow - must be comfy to shoot :).

Hey, Cowboy
I use suede for a lot of my grips. I like it for hunting... it's warm, soft, and quiet. I also have kinda sweaty hands, especially when a big Saskatchewan whitetail buck swaggers past!!
-
Great job on that one. Did you glue in reflex or start with straight limbs?
Mark
-
Mark,
No reflex. Started with straight limbs. String follow is only 1". Bamboo/Ipe is a great combo.
-
wow thats awesome
-
Really nice bow. The skin job is excellent.
-
Wow sweet looking bow, brace and tiller both look excellent and the skins make her look deadly.
-
That one turned out very nice. Well done
-
Very good looking bow.I like that handle also.I know what you mean about BB backed Ipe,I'm looking for more Ipe now.

Beautiful bow, you do fine work.
VB

very cool
-
That is a nice looking bow you got there! Tiller looks darn good and I really like the contrast the handle woods give against the ipe. Superb!
-
I'll have to keep that suede in mind for future reference - wish I could get anything with four legs to swagger by my stand! Very slow start this year......
-
Very nice, indeed!
-
Beautiful work! Good tiller too :)
-
Absolutely gorgeous. You've got to be proud of this one. Bookmarked, of course, for Nov backed Bow of the Month.
-
Beautiful! I've read somewhere that some of you take the scales off of the skin, and some don't? What did you do adb?
-
Hey, Knocker
Yes, you have to take off the loose scales. I give the skins 2 or 3 days to dry, and then I use masking tape or duct tape, and gently pull the scales off with the tape. After that, there are still usually a few left, and I gently rub those off with my thumb. If you hold the bow up to the light, you can see where the scales have come off. If you don't get the scales off, whatever finish you use won't stick... it peels off with the scales. As far as finishes go, I've used a spray on poly, and have also brushed on a satin or semi-gloss poly with good success. I usually keep the finishes on the dull side, for hunting.
Oh, yah... I used hide glue to stick 'em down, but I usually use TB2.

Hey, Cowboy
I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. Archery season starts here Sept 1st., and runs until Oct 31st. We've got some really BIG deer here. Big bodied (with the cold wimters), and racks to match. I've seen 2 record class deer this year, one whitetail, and a mulie. The whitetail was a 10 point 150 class buck, and he came past at about 40 yards... I gave it some serious thought, even started to pull back the string a bit, but I let him walk. 30 yards is my max comfort zone. The mulie was a HUGE 4 X 4, and I kicked him up out of some willows, while stalking some does. Needless to say, after he jumped up 5 yards in front of me, I had to go home and change my shorts!
Even though I haven't poked a hole in anything yet, it's been a good season. Come on up, anytime you'd like. The Hanson Buck (World record typical whitetail) was shot 30 mins from my home.

Very nice bow Adb! Love that snake on there! Hope you get the shot of a lifetime with this bow..
Rich,
-
I'm with Rich - hope you get the shot of a lifetime. I've read about the Hanson buck, don't have any world records around here most likely - but some very nice one's :).
-
nice bow. Im going to have to try some of that ipe some day.
-
Superb finishing work on that bow.
-
Great looking bow. like the skins onit. Ipe and Boo make a great combo.
-
Wow....she's a beautiful bow. I have to try Ipe someday too.
-
adb, Very nice bow. Ipe is almost as good as osage ::). It makes a great backed bow and I've heard a good self bow also.
Your first pic of the handle shows a good example of how a handle riser should sit on the belly...on a platform. Pat

I've always liked the Hill style bows.Your handle and grip look very good as well do the snake skins.Congrats on a sweet bow.tradrick
