for those who hunt without modern gear. Is the best clothing bucskin or wool? i prefer wool sometimes if its rainy. but bucskin is good at keeping out wind and its quiet. wool is too. but, what do you guys prefer? i am into the mountain man ways and wear only wool and leather but was wondering what you guys view was, thanks

i hunt in wool. most of my buckskin is givin away. only thing i dont like about wool are the damn ticks. seems like its the perfect surface for the little suckers to grab onto.
-
Bein' in southeast dont need wool. Hunt mostly in hawgskin er buckskin...............bob
-
yeah it seems anything can grab wool. the jaggers seem to get a good hold. and i would imagine no need for wool in southeast though buckskin can be warm too, it doesnt breath well
-
I like wool.
-
yeah wool is pretty good. though i like to wear a wool coat and a buckskin shirt

If I went all primitive down here,my choice would be loose cotton. It's too hot in Fl.
-
I like the wool, especially for leggins. But I do keep the leather leggins to wear over the wool when it gets really cold.

I hear that, I think I would die if I tried wool. Justin

I prefer cotton

mullet, here in florida i think we would be more inclined to wear a buckskin loin cloth and cover ourselves in mud to keep the mosquitoes off. wouldnt you agree? ;)
-
Always hunted wearing cotton....didn't much think about it until now.
If I had a choice...hmmmm.....braintanned buckskin sounds better than wool. If I got hungry (because I didn't kill anything) I could always eat my shirt.
;D

the trappers in the fur trade era ate moccasins if they had no food.
-
Thats a good idea twisted. Im in florida as well . You might get mistaken for bigfoot that way.
-
I don't know twisted, A little too much hanging out I don't want the skitters nibblin' on
-
Well personally I prefer to hunt in woods sometime open areas ,as far as clothing cotton untill later season when temps drop then wool do have buckskin shirt real coonskin cap ,I wear talk about looks from modern bow hunters
-
Depends on the weather as kajakfisher said.
-
when in the high country I wear my skins .. if the weather gets cold I wear wool underneath and a heavy wool coat over the skins.. if it is raining i wear my oilskin duster over the top.... have spent a lot of cold lonely nights sitting under a tree waiting for daylight so i could get a shot at the elk who were feeding nearby... on those nights I sometimes wish i had the new modern polar fleece clothing and a sleeping bag.. but I always revert back to the primitive stuff...... I am tough.. spelled DUMB ..tough... lol Mike...A/ho

do you guys have any pictures of your clothes? i love pictures.oilskin duster whats that? ??? :) never heard of it. and yeah depends on weather as for anyone. i wear wool a lot too in cold with a bucksin shirt or flannel underneath a capote. or bluejeans when hot or warm and wool when cold and hope to have buckskin pants here soon.

buckskin sounds pretty cool on fall days. ;) Then maybe add wool if it gets to cold.
