Title: Nice harvest
Post by: mullet on November 10, 2007, 10:51:04 am
It sure pays to make bows for the kids in the nieghborhood. My 10 year old next door nieghbor was looking out for Mr.Eddie while he was riding with his mom yesterday. He not only got her to put two 5' pieces in her brand new car but then had her MapQuest where it was at for me.So I went and loaded all this Sat. Morning.I got this out of a trash pile that was about 6' high and 30' long.I liked how some of it was black. Now I have a few days ahead of me splitting it to dry.

I know nothing of bamboo but it sure looks nice. My son is in St Petersburg with the Coast Gaurd, if he had his truck with
I would have him make a midnight raid at your place. ;D

I haven't ever cut any that big but a buddy, Eric Krewson has.  He cautioned me about curing them.  Evidently they wiill warp badly and will split spontaneiously.  If I recall correctly he likes to poke out the center and let them dry whole.  Hopefully he will stop by and offer his opinion.

Nice haul dude.

10-4, I surely will :). I found some stands like that in SC - 6" diameter and looked to be fifty feet tall. Didn't even know you could build a bow then - won't be so green next time >:D.

Amen Mullet.
I hated having to wash those "Love Bugs" off the car before they ate thru the paint, but I'd move back that way if I could.

there's TONS of bamboo  in Northern VA.....It's actually taking over several of the parks there. I'm sure anyone could call the park service there for leads and help them dispose of it, or just cruise the parks.  my brother lives up there and I know they had a big stand by his legion post... I'll see if he can get some leads for y'all...
Is there only one certain type for bow building?
