Howdy folks. A while back I got a stave from Roy. he said it was 20 years old or so. When I say the stave I immedeatly knew what bow I was going to build. Despite having a slight reflex in the center I knew it was to become a deflex recurve bow. I worked it down to one ring and steam bent the handle. Shaped it some more and did the statics which I must admit I lOooVE. I added about 3 layers of leg sinew to the limbs. Limbs are 2 inches wide. The stave was 60 inches but I cut it down to 54 inches so the bow is 54 tip to tip. I also added some nice and paper thin sheep rawhide after the sinew to put on the decoration. My GF painted it as always. It also has horn overlays. The bow ended up 43lbs @ 28 inches of draw. No stack and shoots fast, I think this is a great bow for bow hunting in the bush. if I still have it by aug-sept I will take it bow hunting with me.
Here are some pics.

thanks hobow
Thanks ryoon: yea the ambidextrous handle is nice I like the way it looks too.
Thanks Live for the O: I actually chronoed it at 149 fps. tested the exact draw weight, it was 42lbs and was shooting a 456 grain arrow. I might need to pull it like .5 more as my draw is only 27 so to get the 42-43 lbs. I love the smoothness for sure.

That's probably better than I would do... ;D I've never built a bow less than 62", and never one with that much reflex. My first try would probably be laughable ::)
oh boy, I know I got to make one of these kinds of bows now...
I think the only thing that stops me from making shorties is that I find my accuracy really gets bad the shorter the bow gets...? ???
-
Sweet bow bro! I always love your paint designs :D, were you ever able to find a stave of olive wood by chance?
-
Live for the outdoor: In this case ths short bow is actually as accurate as a long bow because of those recurves and the deflex handle allows me to get a 28 inch draw, so its good for accuracy. As far as the other short bows that draw shorter, its a matter of practice practice practice. I can say I got my short 52 inch bow that I draw to 22-23 and can be consistent at 15-20 yards with practice.
jake: thans: i actually found one but had to do alot of heat corrections because it was kinda crooked.

-
Real beauty. Fantastic bow. Love the color. :-)
-
That's one sexy petite lady you have there!! Crazy beautiful and that ambidextrous grip is almost scary!!! I know osage can do that but i'd almost wince each time i pulled back!
-
Thanks dbb
thanks Dubois
thanks beadman
Thanks anasazi
Thanks Christian
Thanks bowman
K-hat: the area where the shelf is at is pretty thick so thinning it out didnt really affect it. What is hard to do in these bows is getting the darn string to align, its a pain in the rear, especially with those recurves. Luckily this one centers out nicely.
-
Very nice! :)
-
Can only echo what everyone else has said - beautiful bow, Cesar! I'm trying to picture the reflexed stave before you treated it into deflex :)
Can you post a close-up of the nocks from profile and face-on please, if you get the chance?
Steve.
-
thanks Vine maple
Hatcha; ill try to get some. The reflex wasnt to drastic but the stave was pretty thick at that point. i didnt chase a ring until after I deflexed it.
-

-
Man you got all the bend out of that one. Love it
-
