Title: Hinge Option (Short Elm)
Post by: Sasquatch on May 21, 2013, 03:58:20 pm
So I started an Elm bow awhile back and as i was drawknifing a big rip came up :'(  I knew the bow would be to weak for my liking so i cut it at the hinge.  It was already 1.5" wide but now it was 48" long.  I decided to make a short bow.  I during the process I bent this bow way past the final draw weight.  Plus I only had 1.5" to work with, so it took 1.75" set.  After the set I decided to reflex the tips, and those didn't come out even.  Long story short the bow doesnt look great at full draw, or no brace.  I used Jacob Bean on the stain.  and painted the other side.  I had left the back unstained and apinted which left the blank areas between the paint white.  But I tried fixing the tiller and when i restained it some dripped on to the back.  So i simply went with it and stained the back also.  Its 48" NTN and 46#@26.

Sweet bow man!  I recently got into bendy bows and I love 'em.  So you shoot with your pinky out cause that's the classy way to do it?

Very nice bow, saves or no saves. Elm will take a lot and still make a damned fine bow. I'll bet it's quick out to at least 20yds......really hope it gets to go huntin with ya.

You got a lot of bend out of your 48" bow there with the 46# draw@26".Resting profile looks pretty darn good.
