7/8" dia. sapling . 50" long 30#@26" Hemp handle. That's it. About 1-1/4" set after a couple hundred shots through her. Took about 2 hrs to make , including string and handle wrap. Oh yeah, natural reflex in one end , the other was introduced.

Sweet little bow, right there. 2 hours has gotta be some kinda record!! ::)
-
wow, very awesome little bow.
-
Very nice little bow. Did you sand the bark down at all or leave it full thickness?
-
you....you only took two hours to do that?.......how long have you been doing this?
-
Very neat little bow. Good job. God Bless
-
The stave is full width. No side profiling to do . It was as simple as shaving down the belly to tiller it out . The stuff works like butter under a spokeshave and scraper. Sanded the bark very lightly at the tips so it wouldn't abrade the string ,and sanded the edges to smooth the transition between bark and belly.Quick coat of bees wax. Quick wrap for the handle.Done. Lots of fun shooting in the shop! This was some experimenting ,for the trade bow.............................

So did you let it season?
Nice bow.
-
Cut last fall. Shaved it down, gave her a bit of heat while I was recurving the one end, and left it in the Truck a couple afternoons when we got some hot weather. If I hadn't tortured it , I think it would have taken less set.
-
nice bow, i really like privet, it seems to like heat treating too. i have a snakey stave here that im gona use soon.
-
As others have said - very nice bow!
-
Thats a cool little bow. I'm impressed with how narrow it is. Thanks for sharing!

-
thats awesome!!

That came out great. Very nice. Jawge

Awesome bow! I have a privet sapling waiting to b a bow also. Can you post a pic of the back w bark on?
-
This is a beautiful little bow. Good tiller.
Some years ago I saw a Elb made out of privet, it looked like bone.
Btw. I have made arrows out of privet shoots, for me by far the best under the wooden shoots.

Wow, I didn't think this little experiment would generate this much interest. Thanks for all the comments guys! I have 6-8 more staves (bigger and better) . Now that I know what it can do, I'll see if maybe I can make a nice trade bow out of it!Thanks for the info on the shafts Simson. There is a whole hedge being removed this year. I hope I'm not too late! I'll see if I have a pic of the back ,Cherokee. If not, I'll get one.
-
(http://) Here you go Cherokee. Just sanded the nock area down about four inches . Just enough so the string would slide smoothly. Doesn't really look different , just smoother. Put a coat of bee's wax on . That's it. The bark is still tight as ever after about 250 shots or so.
-
Leaving that bark on sure gave it a nice, rustic appearance. Cool looking bow!

Cool bow.
I've just got a load of privet staves upto 4 inch diameter from an ancient hedge. I'm looking forward to it being dry!
-
Nice! I think the larges I have is about 3" but very dense.
-
Very cool, I could not imagine making such a nice bow in two hours.

Thanks for the pics! Thats awesome. Is there any chance the bark will separate from the wood eventually? That question is to anyone who might know.
-
There's always a chance. More if it dries out. On the other hand I've got 3 year old plum bows with the bark on that are shooting fine, showing no signs of separating.
