So I missed two on Friday. The water is 1.5 feet deep, muddy as all get out, but they are there. I hope to go back out in the morning. I'll be in a canoe this time though.
I plan on skinning them on the lake. Do I scale them first? I figured I'd put the skins in a zip lock full of water or a bucket to bring home. Tack to a board and let dry?
That is if I'm lucky enough to see them, get a shot and hit one. :-[
Thanks, dpg

I have dried walleye skins just like snake skins. I cleaned and scraped them as much as I could before I tacked them down. I'm not sure on when to remove the scales. Good luck Derik ;)

I've got a real good recipe for cedar plank carp if you want to try it >:D
Good luck and aim low ;)

dpg: Spent a few hours two mornings in a row shooting carp! Out of fifty some only a few were worth skinning. Was hoping for a grass carp as they are really pretty. Also, like you, I do not know how to prepare a skin. Just guessing, but it looks like leaving the scales on until the skin is dry would be the way to go. I have a few pictures, but to dumb to put them on the PA site. I did manage to get two with one shot. The carp were in the muddy water in the weeds so were easy to shoot. Got to feeling like it was not "Fair Chase"! Joe

don't dry them.roll them up and freeze them until you are ready to use them.make sure you degrease them with warm water, dawn dish soap and a soft brush.good luck Derik.

Thanks for the replys guys and Jeanette! I had a great day on the lake, but came home empty handd again. I did drop the string twice, but no luck. Nearly shot the bow of my boar once. :o I'm not done though. I had so much fun I expect I'll continue giving it a go. Had a buddy tell me of another spot too. Thanks again for the posts, dpg
