Title: Forum names
Post by: BowEd on June 21, 2013, 11:14:30 am
I'm wondering why noones' been brave enough to have a name like the bow doctor.Might it be noone would sign on the dotted line to exclude them from mal practice or that your bow just never wakes up again?Just a funny thought.

... tongue in cheek?

They call me Dead Eye, Sniper, Scary Sumbich.
College, I was dubbed the German Virgin.

First three would make me sound arrogant and full of myself.
The last one takes some explaining, and is awkward at first blush (see? it's a pun!)

My forum name is the name I use on most internet stuff. It started out as my XBOX Live gamertag. When I was growing up, my dad used to call me a slackbunny when he thought I was spending too much time playing video games. So I decided to embrace it instead of fighting it.  :P

Well, some people call me the space cowboy, but some call me the gangster of love. Now, some people call me Maurice. But that's simply because I speak of the pompatus of love.

If you spelled out your last name you would have to put it longways down the limb.  ;D

I'm a picker, I'm a grinner, I'm a lover, and I'm a sinner. I play my music in the sun. I'm a joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight toker. I sure don't want to hurt no one.  ;)

Plus I had a great avatar to go with it!

You are a small unleavened biscuit with tiny holes pricked it and a sprinkle of salt.  You go good with chili and also with cheese. Nuff said.

My middle name is "Augustus", like my Grandfather before me.
I used to HATE the name "Augustus" or "Gus" as a child.
Got into as many fights over it as my red hair, last name, and several other things combined.

But then one day I stopped resisting it and embraced it.
Wore it with pride...
But I still got into just as many fights over it as my red hair, last name, and several other things combined.
Just for a different reason...    :o

MarkS = Mark Smith

Some think my last name is Marks. Not so. I get on several forums and don't feel like making up a catchy related name for each of them. I get on a duck hunting, squirrel dog, hog dog, and PA forum. Keep it simple.

Too many southern boys calling themselves catfish, cooter, bubba, etc. Figured I'd use the only fish with a gizzard, true to the south and good eating anyway you fix it. Plus my family made a living in the 40's and 50's catching and selling them. I did it as a joke and kinda stuck with it now.

My name is Guy and I am from Ohio , the Buckeye state !
For years I have been known in Michigan as Guy from Ohio !
The folks in Indiana were not so kind, just called me Buckeye !
So when I finally signed up for PA ,I figured Buckeye Guy would cover it , and my proper name, "Worthless Old Nut" just seams to long !
Have fun !!

When it came time to determine what my screen name would be I drew a complete blank. The same thing had happened earlier when I signed up for another site which would be used by my wife and me so I kept the name. My wife's name is Leslie and mine is Kenny, hence the LesKen and the year I joined was 2011 so that is where is came from. I know....why couldn't it be something cool like Robin Hood, or something. Well, too late now.

Never could understand the handle thing. I guess everyone picks one because everyone else does, a monkey see, monkey do kind of thing.

People come up to me at shoots and say" I am cow patty from the stickbow". Just as well be telling me they are a space alien from mars. If they had said "I am Bill Jenkins" I would remember them from the site, handles confuse me. Then again, I am crotchety old guy who doesn't fit comfortably in a lot of what are considered normal, modern behavior patterns.

Tell you how odd I am; I don't own a cell phone and drink city water right out of the tap, now thats pretty odd nowadays.

Hi, My name is Ben. I like sticks and stones....

I work in Yosemite National Park, so Yosemite Ben it is.

In my younger years and now somewhat later years folks still call me bear or some derivation there of.  I have been confused for a bear when wandering the campgrounds at night checking food storage.

Iffn y'all make it out this way give a hoot. Door's usually open if we are home.

Eric,  when I first joined PA as well as some other forums I was new to the world of the internet and didn't feel comfortable going by my real name.

I started out as scrub buster because my brother in law called me that.  I was pretty good at bustin' scrub bucks back then.  I wanted to change it to something to do with osage because I am lucky enough to be surrounded by it.  Osage Outlaw is what I came up with.  TG won't let me change my user name so I'm still Scrub buster over there.

Here I was thinking it was really cold where you lived...it's a 4 dog night!

*sigh*  Whadya call a guy that just HAS to hang out with musicians...a bassist.
How does a bassist break up with his band?  "Hey guys! I wrote a song!"
Whadya call a bassist that breaks up with his girlfriend?  Homeless.
How do you come up with new bassist jokes?  Go to drummerjokes.com and change the instrument.  ( :P  Hey Pearlie!)

Feel the love 4dog!  I used to play the four string gut bucket, too.  Couple years ago I googled my name and found a mess of folks that share the name, including an Aussie and a Kiwi that both play bass professionally in rock bands.  They even knew each other!

Most people strive for a certain degree of anonymity, I am just the opposite, I love talking face to face with real people. To be honest, I have to admit I have a bit of a motor mouth, to the dismay of the majority of folk I corner at times.

I never use a drive up window for take out food, banking or paying bills, just don't care to talk into or listen to a garbled voiced microphone when I can talk face to face to some nice (nice most of the time) young person directly at the counter.

I am just different........

From what I've gathered, which I know isn't a whole lot since I'm a youngin', handles regarding forums and most of the internet are, as was mentioned, for anonymity. They are kind of like a unique way of displaying yourself without actually displaying yourself. I've noticed that, on forums or other internet outlets where someone is more inclined to being personally involved and open to sharing such details of themselves, their handles or screen-names are either very closely related to or are directly related to themselves, such as a name. And, likewise, such avenues that are not as personally involved, such as video games, etc. the handles tend to be anything BUT their name. Usually, not saying it's true on all accounts, just what I've noticed over the years. I've played a fair share of video games and seen a fair share of gamertags, names, handles and calls. And before you say it, I do still go outside to play!  ;)

As for me, my forum name here is a direct reflection of my name. It's not my whole name, but it's a snippet of my last name and the nickname my husband calls me, so it's pretty darn close.  ;D I felt that this was a comfortable and friendly enough place that I could be a little more direct with detail, since you guys will probably inevitably see me when I'm showing off bows I've blown up and other horrific accidents I end up having.  ::)

Welcome to the place, Jessa.  Feel free to post those bows, blown or otherwise.  Nothing in here we like better (or at least nothing we can freely talk about in a family oriented forum such as this!)

Not cold in Texas it seems ,,ever!!! Something bout you Halverson,i just knew you were strange enough to be a bassist ,cause as everyone knows ,bassists are a bit twisted.  And as far as drummers saying bassist jokes,us bass players just consider the source ,ya know drummers arent really musicians,,right.?

For you younger ones out there, the "Desoto" J.W. is talking about is not the famous Spanish explorer,  ;) but a......uh..... antique automobile. 8)  It looked something like what I imagine the flagship of Commander Cody, and the Lost Planet Airmen would look like. 8)  "You're gonna drive me to drinkin, if you don't stop driving that hot rod Lincoln!" :P  Which would explain why he was playing with refrigerator magnets.  Which is not a bad thing, like putting your face up against the microwave door, while watching the bowl of ramen noodles rotate on the turntable in the oven, while wearing a quilted tinfoil hat, trying to think of a user name for this site.  Not that I did anything as silly as that. :o  Well not at first...... ::) :P  I guess throwing refrigerator magnets against the door of an old car, is better than throwing toe bones of deer, and other animals, and trying to decipher their meaning.  But none the less, it all turned out well.  So maybe if you don't have a PA user name yet, you might try the magnet trick.  And if you can't get a Desoto door, look for an old dodge push button automatic, and use the door from that.  Should have something like the same parameters of lunar magnetic attraction.  Check the tides, and try it on a high tide. ;)

Good luck with it.  And let us know what name you came up with. :)
Actually it is a pretty good idea.  I kind of like it.  I might have to revamp my user name.

Eric,

I dig what you're saying. I don't own a cell phone, drink tap water, and don't use drive-up windows. I go a bit further myself. I don't have a TV and the only reason I have a microwave oven is because this chick that lived here with me insisted on it. She also insisted on using the drive-through window, which was a drag. But, hey, it wasn't all bad. She taught me how to roll a cigarette, she could sing great, and could make a great pot of collard greens. But we never got around to reading Kerouac or even the Lotus Sutra together or making the trip to Big Sur. Anyway, how did I get so off topic? Oh, yeah, forum names.

Well, I follow the Dharma so hence the name. But, my real name is really irrelevant since it isn't the name I was born with. So, I am not attached to my name. My first name is spelled different from the way most spell that first name. People pronounce it differently and I'm cool with that, too. I dig people saying it different. If I had thought ahead, I'd have told the people I already know to say it different, too. I can do the same with my middle name since it is also spelled different. Yeah, so, my parents were pretty counterculture. But I still served in the 101st Airborne and had CH-47s land on my helmet. Screen names are just that----screen names. Speaking of the 101st Airborne, my name was once Roster 615 there. Don't worry about screen names. Just watch Breakfast At Tiffanys and it'll all be peaches.

I picked my user name from a country song. Seemed fitting for two reasons, one being the hit my business took during the economic  recession of recent years and the other from my perceived view of having poor tillers on some of my bows. Not broke, just badly bent.
Stickbender- You a Commander Cody fan too? The wife and I just saw Bill Kirchen of CC fame play a club

ballads of all times imo.

Dharma, instead of "Lotus Sutra", you should've tried "Kama Sutra" ;D ::)
Badly Bent, oh yeah, Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, are a good band.  But I go back a lot further than that.  The Hollywood Argyles, and Alley Oop!  Just love that syncopated beat.  Plus I used to read Ally Oop in the funny papers.  Along with all the other now defunct characters.  Ah a name.  What is a name, but a string attached to the vehicle of your soul.  Oooh, that should have been in a song when I was in high school.  Of course that is a line in a poem I wrote in High School.  But it should have been in a Moody Blues song or something .  Anyway back to names......Mullet...... I could see him with one, as he is racing at high speeds on his motorcycle, trying to evade the police in
Colorado  :o........ or something like that...... ;D   Of course instead of
refrigerator magnets, there is always the .......WEEEEEEE GEEEEEEE board! :o :o
:P

It has nothing to do with my social or political views which has been implied in the past. It's just easy to see him sunning on a rock and remember my screen name now i just need another pet for my password

My real name (spelled Neal not Neil) just so happens to be the same as a Canadian singer that sings Cinnamon Girl and Southern Man.  When i lived in North Dakota everybody called me "Southern Man" (because of my southern twang)  but nobody got the irony of calling someone named Neal Young "Southern Man".

I got the name Patches in a round about way from Swamp Monkey.  He was trying figure out why I did some of the things that I used to do (he called them psycotic episodes), and his only explaination was that there was a tiny little critter named Patches living inside my brain that would get go haywire every once in a while and would result in my odd behavior.  We always joked about what "Patches" has been up to lately, and "Patches" was always blamed my questionable behavior.  So it just stuck, and with some of the things I have done to get bow making material, it just seemed to fit.

Thats my story....

Neal Young  (the bow shooter, not the rockstar)

Commander Cody, and the Lost Planet Airmen

Well You hit a Chord there... :)

Last time I saw the Commander was in New York at B.B. King's place... in 2005.
Wound up with all three bands that played that night sitting at our table with a hand full of Made Men and Ex- Hippies and Hoodlums...
That's the last time I played Frogger in Time Square... and Won!

Besides Everybody knows that the Only thing that keeps the band moving forward is The Bass Player!!!
