In one of my last pieces of the "Halloween Hurricane" black locust tree that fell across my yard in 2011, I whittled this 61 inch, raw hide backed bow. It came in at 44# at 28 inches. The hide is dyed with feibings leather dye, tied off with hemp wrappings, and covered with 10 or so coats of Tru oil. A neatsfoot oiled leather handle and velcro arrow pass finish the look. Although I had finished this bow a couple of weeks ago, I kept delaying getting to PO, as I really enjoyed shooting her in, and shooting her in, and . . . I hope Mr. XXXXXXX enjoys her. Should get her out in the mail this weekend . . .

Nice job, RB. Anyone would be glad to have that one!!
-
Hey guys, thanks for the kind words.
JJ - - the dye is Fiebings Dark Brown leather dye, and it really make the raw hide look like, well, um, leather.

great looking bow. I like the deep red and love the tips on it too.

That bow looks great all around. If I'm Mr. xxxxxxx I'll be real happy when that shows up on my front steps. You make a mean locust bow Russ. ;D
-
Sweet looking bow! I like the curves. I'd sure be happy to get that at my door!
-
great bow, it looks nice, well done
-
JJ - my apologies - the dye color was Medium Brown, not the Dark Brown.
BB - Thanks for the compliments - - and all I am willing to say, is the bow will soon be traveling West. You can speculate from there. :-)

Man thats awesome, do you stain the rawhide while it is wet or after it dries?
Grady
-
Not a good enough hint Russ, just about everything is west of you. >:D
-
Well lets see - being an Americano Centrist (is that a word) - west of me means no England or Australia, but, I agree, a pretty lame hint. How bout North West? I did get her away this weekend so all will become known soon enough.
Grady - I dye the raw hide after it has dried on the back of the bow. The dye sands off the wood if some accidentally gets on the belly.

Nice.
