I needed to shake the rust off of my pipe making skills for (hopefully) an upcoming trade on a different forum, so I threw this together in about an hour. I blew out of 5 or 6 stems due to my boring wire being too stiff and the twigs too green, but I was able to salvage a short section to use for now.

It was a great way to Zen my way through the disappointment of my Arborist connection cutting my fresh white ash into firewood in a moment of forgetfullness.

Yeah it just scorches my taters when they do that. Very cool pipe by the way. What size hole do you put in the stem? Ron

Thank you!
I think it's ~3/32". I definitely need to get some new wire though, something more malleable.
Pappy, I'm waiting for a day off that SWMBO is working so I can break it in without disturbing the family dynamic :)
I can't get too mad at him, since he's my old man and let me live through 18 :)
It was a really rough work day for him, climbing saturated trees between lines of thunderheads. Can't blame him for his priorities.

I am getting a fondness for these simpler pipes like this one. Also doesn't hurt as much to misplace one, not like the hurt I felt when I recently misplaced a nice custom Meerschaum. >:(
I also found that if you rub the end of the stem with beeswax the pipe smokes just a bit nicer!

Things I noticed on the first smoke:
1. It whistles when I smoke it too fast/hot. Both a blessing and a curse. I will need to try with a longer stem to see if that's the issue or the smoke hole.
2. I was taken by surprise when it smoked down to ash. Nice dry smoke and no relights.
3. The mouthpiece needs a finish. JW, you're right, beeswax woul be perfect, or Carnauba for the classic shiny look.

My condolences on the missing meerschaum :( that has to hurt

Just a thin coat of raw honey.
