Finally got it finished up! As the title says, Seneca scalloped replica from Jim Hamm and Steve Allely's encyclopedia of native American bows arrows and quivers. Not an exact replica by any means, but I think it somewhat resembles the original. Its eastern hop hornbeam and shoots my 550 grainers hard. It's about 60" ntn, give or take an inch or so. Drawing 50# @ 28". The feather bundles are grouse and stripped turkey secondaries tied on to buckskin thongs with sinew. The finish is spruce pitch and grease heated into the wood with two coats of beeswax over that. It has about an inch and a half of stringfollow just after being unbraced which settles back to its original flat profile. This is my first time using this wood and also my first scalloped bow. I owe a thank you to Soy for the wood and many thanks to Halfeye for the feathers, finish and advice on how to make a scalloped bow. I truly appreciate the help fellas! Thanks for looking! Josh

Nice one! Gonna make someone very happy!
-
sweet Jesus man, That is a damned fine example right there!!!! The execution is your usual high standard but the grouse feathers bundles are outstanding and a super final touch.

PS: That bow would be worthy of huntin the "old girl". ;)

Woah!
-
Nice work Josh. Mind giving us the finished specs? >:D
-
Too Cool! Likin' that one a bunch.
-
Slim took the words outta my mouth, TOO COOL 8). Those two bows on page 46 of the book are the ones I'm always
looking at 1st when I open it up. I've done the other one twice but haven't attempted the one you did with the feather bundles. Don't believe I could pull it off that nicely. Real nice representation Josh, definitely gonna make someone happy.
-
Very,very nice looker. Well done

Awesome! Great work as usual, Josh. 8) that bow definitely has some personality. Somebody's going to be lucky to get that.
-
Well done, I have pondered that bow many times looking through the TBB
-
Dang, that one rocks my boat, I wish it was for me!
-
WOW - you put some serious work into that. Looks awesome!
-
Very cool Josh. Exact or not that's a fine representation.
-
Sweet bow there, Josh. I'm looking forward to the money shot.

Oh my, that's a beauty. Wow.

-
Sweet I really like that one
-
I really like what you did there. That bow will make a happy archer when UPS arrives!
-
Sweet lookin bow, Josh....feathers n all!! :P
-
She finished off NICE Josh! Somebody will be happy.
-
Thanks for the kind words fellas! I hope the recipient will be pleased. I don't imagine the feathers would be practical in a hunting situation, so they are easily removed. After all, I don't think there is a higher honor than for someone to make meat with my bows.
Rich, I thought you might recognize those feathers. Those are the ones that were a little small for fletching, but too pretty to not use. I still have a bunch of them ready to tie on to my sharp sticks. Thanks for all your help with this Rich. I really appreciate it!
Clint, here is the finish specs- sealer is a blend of spruce pitch and grease heated into the wood. Two coats of raw beeswax complete with bee legs and wings rubbed in on top of that. Does that help ol buddy? >:D BTW, I believe that I'll filter the beeswax next time, I had a helluva time getting the debris picked out of the wax! Josh

I wasn't really planning on entering the BOM this month, but since there are so few people that entered their bows, I changed my mind. I know some of you are tired of seeing the same guys enter and win month after month. Well if you're not entering your bows, you're as much to blame as anyone. In other words, GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND STRUT YOUR STUFF! Six entries! Really!?!? I'm reasonably sure that I've seen a helluva lot more bows than that this month. And beautiful bows to boot. So anyway, stepping off the soapbox, here's the money shot. Josh
-
Perfect tiller, but then again, I would expect nothing less. Dang fine bow, my friend.
-
I'd vote for that ;) ..but I sure as heck wouldn't put one of my junkers up against that ::)
-
That full draw pic just sent shivers down my spine!
-
Nice Josh! Love that bend :)
-
Wow that is stunning
-
Can't hope to compete against that. Had I known I wouldn't have thrown a bow in BOM.
That's a for sure winner right there!
-
Josh, I'm with you. We need more bows in the BOM contest. So, I'm doing something Thursday that I should have done long before now; I getting a subscription to PA. (I've actually tried online 3 times but couldn't get it to work). So, I'm calling to place my order. So, if your bow is in August's BOM, I'll be honored to be a runner-up to your Seneca bow. If your Seneca bow is in July's contest, I'm sure you'll have another bow to enter in August. Let's have some fun.
-
A beauty! WOnderful bend on that one
-
Thats a Nice bow. Seneca Power. I'm planning to build the other one with scallops. In hickory. :-)
-
Thanks fellas! According to USPS, someone has a new bow on there porch as of 10:00 this morning. I hope the new owner is not disappointed.
Dave- its about time ol buddy!
Bryce- I own one your bows. I seriously doubt you have anything to worry about! ;) ;D.
Thanks again! Josh
-
Great bow josh. But i never expect anything else from you. ;)
-
Oh no, definitely no disappointment here. I love it, it is truely an amazing bow. I am sorry I haven't taken pics yet I had to go to church for vacation bible school as soon as I came home from work. I will tske some tomorrow afternoon and get them up. Words cant describe how cool this bow is, my daughter thought it was really cool too. Thank you very much it is just my style.
Grady :D
-
Thanks Steve! I appreciate it!
Grady- I'm glad you like it. I hope it lasts you many moons and puts a lot of meat on your table should you decide to honor me by hunting with this bow. Josh
-
Awesome results Doc. Using all natural products too! Pretty impressive.
-
where are the pics from the new owner and how does that puppy shoot that looks sweet!!!!
-
Thanks Dan!
Thanks Soy! I'm sure he'll get time to try it out sooner or later and put up a pic or two maybe. Josh
-
I will get them up as soon as I can, I have had no time after work the last 2 weeks. I will get some up by this weekend I promise. I haven't even got to shoot it yet and it is killing me.

No worries Grady. Take care of the priorities first. That bow probably needed the rest anyway. It's rode along with me for fifty thousand miles through 40 of the fifty states and even went to the "Classic"! Its probably tired! Lol! Josh
-
Wow, it's been around the block a few times.
