Does anyone have a standardized design/jig for a gull wing bow?
Thinking about a lam/trilam maybe. I have my own ideas that I've been pondering, but would appreciate the more experienced input from PA members.
If you have any ideas...
Thanks in advance

Don't have a jig or anything, but it's really pretty simple. I'm not a board bow guy, but the shape is the same either way. Deflexed stave and add some set back in the handle. How much is up to you. Wood choice and length/width will play a role in what your profile should be.

Maybe consider flipping the tips, gull wing bows like to take mid limb from what I've seen.

Take set midlimb I meant.

Thanks for the info.
Guess I'll just have to wing it... ::)

Working on my first Gull wing right now outta hackberry I just steamed the handle area took a 2 by 4 put a half piece of a log on it and bent it backward as far as I wanted and basically tied it down I actually did that probably 5 months ago just got around to working on it again a couple days ago Don't worry I'm basically winging it too I didn't do much research on this design before I started but Ohh well it'll work I think

Joec,
That's probably what I will do,
but, most every time that I said..."oh well I think that it will work".

Thanx! I had always wondered just how to spell 'SH@TF$%*@ $#%^&$ ##@#$ %$^%'! Now I know...

btw - The guy at the desk next to me says that there is supposed to be an accent mark over the third dollar sign. Is he right?

I have a piece of 4" steel pipe that I cut in half to form a arch.I place the pipe on the middle of the handle ,clamp one end at the tip ,put a wet all cotton rag at the handle area to cover a 12" centered, place tin foil losely over the cloth ,poke a couple of holes in the foil to watch for steam after heating with a gun and clamp the other tip in place.remove the foil and cloth and add dry heat until it's brown.I hold the heat gun 1/2" from the wood ,but never stop moving the gun in a sweeping motion.allow the wood to cool for a couple of hours.some may dissagree with my heat treating method ,but that's how I do it.

@ Onebow
Not sure, I guess I'll have to get the F%*@ing dictionary. ;D
@ Bushboy
I like the idea. Steaming and bending is steaming and bending. I'm sure some methods are better than others.
Thanks for the info.
