Had me fooled as well :P Pretty need bow! Real nice job on the pictures too... ;)

Pappy, I apologize for the teasing!
After taking the pics, I realized that the first posted one looked realistic like a snake. The kinda 'blind' scale looks like an eye and a line like a mouth. So I couldn't resist …, sorry for your afford moving that thread and redoing!
Having much trouble with the HLD bow buildalong since some time, I wanted to have a positive feeling about a finished bow. Having always a bunch on the bench, I crapped this one and put on the last coat. Hope you like it too.
This was a never ending story, lasting now over two years. It started as an experimental project to see what is possible with osage/sinew and what is the right ratio. I did several sinew layers on that, in between the bow was shot and tillered and retillered and so on. But now I call it finished!
The stave needed several times heat correcting, also twist (horrible!) correcting until the string was nearly in line. This bow has single kerf nocks cut in the same side (not opposing) – not for looks, but to bring the string in the correct position.
This piece has lot of character, snakey and sideward changing crown on the back. Layout is a symmetrical, bend through the handle, static recurve.
Length is only 56”, recurves are steamed in, sinew is all ostrich (from the pet shop!).
The last layer is applied as heavy crown, I estimate the ratio 1:3 (sinew/osage). Sinew wrappings are under the nocks and in the handle area, to prevent popping off.
Handle is upholstered with a strip of leather for more comfort, hemp wrap is particularly dyed in matching colors of the skins. The skins are glued on with TBIII and now finished with shellac and a few coatings of hardoil. Arrow pass is stingray leather.
Let me hear your estimations about the drawweight! Tip: it's 41/16 mm midlimb, mass is 682grams.
Bow can be drawn to 28”.
I post a force draw curve in a few days.
Now enjoy!

That heavy sinew package on the back caused several checks on the belly side, but no problem:

Great bow and a great job messing with the Mods! The Moderators are all great folks and they can stand a little good natured ribbing from time to time. Especially if you post pics of bows like this one!

I have an excel sheet for doing my f/d curves, it ends at a drawweight of 90lbs.
This bow can be drawn to 28" (not by me!) and has here a drawweight of 105lbs.
A buddy of mine can shoot this monster. One day I gave it to him for testing and he was so enthusistic he didn't stop for two hours. I can draw it to only max. 90#.
-
:o :o :o :o :o
-
that bow is a work of art. excellent as usual. and what a draw weight.
-
Absolutely gobsmacking.

That truly is a beast in more than apearance :o Impressive....again
-
Hey simson, don't know about the bow, but the bowyer is for sure a wild animal. There must be a few T-REX's runnin your neighborhood, eh? absolutely beautiful bend there, as do all your bows have.

Pretty nice drawcurve for a primitive bow there, smooth (if 105# is ever smooth ;D ) all the way. Cool!
-
Off the Charts!!!

Thanks guys for that nice compliments!

Rich, unfortunately bowhunting is illegal in Germany >:( . So must let them run, I hope they stay at neighbours ...

This bow has incredible early drawweight and an higher increase in the first inches. When I have guests, I brace this bow for them - you should see the faces when they try to pull this snake.

Mein Gott! Das iss Goot! :o Man you are indeed a master bowyer! 8) Absolutely beautiful! 8)
105 lbs. at full draw?!!!!! You say you can "ONLY" pull it back to 90lbs.?!! I couldn't even brace it! :o :P And you say your friend can?!!! :o Be glad he is your Friend! ;) ;D ;D
Sorry about the misspelled Deutsch, just guessing at it. The only thing I would be worried about is the string wearing off the skin on the nocks. But still, it is an absolutely stunning bow.
I do believe you could get a consistent pass through with that bow! But you might as well not bother looking for the arrow afterwards, since it is probably somewhere in the Swiss, or Italian Alps! Man I wonder what that would do at the world flight shoots?! :o You would have to attach a locator beacon on the arrow! Beautiful job, by a true master, thanks for sharing it, and messing with moderators. They need their tail feathers tugged now and then. ;) ;D
Wayne
P.S. Too bad you are not allowed to hunt in Germany. What about Switzerland? Heck get with one of the moderators here, and come over here for a hunt! That should dump a BIG hog, or Elk, or Buffalo ! Heck that should roll a Grizzly Bear with no problems! Unfortunately at this time they are protected, But in Montana there is a proposal to take them off the endangered list, so.....someday maybe they can be hunted. ;) Canada has some huge deer, and black bear. ;) Especially in Saskatchewan!
-
I've never seen anyone hit that weight with this type of bow. It's beautiful and fascinating. Ostrich sinew...huh!?
-
Respect. :D Wonderful and agressive and stunning. Like it a lot. :-)
-
A bow of beauty.
-
Lordy can't believe I missed this one.More outstanding work simson from every view. You might want to hand that one to a weight lifter.....LOL.
-
The Power of SINEW!!!!!!!Unbraced profile says it all on that short of a bow with the wiggles in it with that poundage.
