Cut this 2 1/2" yew back in march. While me and Carson were on our way back from Keenan's we stopped for a leak and found this dandy, when I roughed it out she took a little deflex while drying which is fine with me, turned out for the better. Always wanted an R/D type bow.

Good job man! That has to be the ultimate, to build a weapon by hand and then harvest with it. Some day . . . some day.

Gordon they where stone points. Busted out the other side through a rib bone.

Great shot! Those pointy sticks do work, don't they. Finish up the dirty work and the cuttin' and wrappin', and get on with the eatin'!!

Gabe
-
Yea.Way to go Bryce. You're the man.took a look at those bow pictures again and had a thought looking at that sapwood. It looks like vanilla frosting.....LOL.
-
Now that is fine elk taken with a great bow. Congrats Bryce, happy that it came came together for ya man. Your gonna be eating good for some time. :) :) :)
-
When I saw graphic photos added, I thought there was going to be a broken bow at the end of this thread. Glad I thought wrong. Congratulations!
-
How freakin cool is that good job man 8)
-
Thanks guys :) the arrow went through both lungs and the point was stuck in the rib on the other side and snapped.
When I realized I had 5 days left in the season I knew I had to put my nose to the dirt. We don't buy meet in my house, so I was feeling the stress of an empty freezer. I still have a deer tag to fill and only 2 days off to fill it so we'll see if this bow has the stuff to fill the freezer :)
Thanks again I'll get you guys the whole story as soon as I get some sleep. Had to quarter and haul back a mile (6 trips) back to my truck.
Thanks for the kind words. :)

-
very very cool, well done, work to be done indeed!! let us know how the taste test goes. >:D
-
Good job Bryce! You don't just make a fine bow, but you know how to shoot it too! Congratulations on your beautiful elk! Dale
-
Outstanding!
-
Nice work brother! I know you earned it.
-
Bryce, have you guys seen any of the hoof rot with your elk there in OR? Up here in WA, we have been seeing it for a few yrs. http://wdfw.wa.gov/conservation/health/hoof_disease/
The pictures the game department shows here are not even close to being bad. Ed
-
Thanks guys :) I covered some country searching for this herd. When I figured out where they where going I sat there and waited.
Ed, I've been collecting hooves (good dog chews) all season from other hunters, and I haven't seen one that didn't look healthy. I think the Columbia is keeping the disease on that side of the river or something.
Carson would know more about it than me maybe he will chime in.
-
I'm thinking we are going to loose a lot of our elk before this has run its course, we seem to be getting past a hair loss in our deer that really put the hurt on the population around us, now our elk are getting the snot kicked out of them. Hope you guys never have to see this on your side of the river. I've seen these poor elk on 1 good leg. You really just want to put them down, but if the wrong person was to see this and call you in, you'd be in trouble for poaching.
Congrats on the elk nice shot. Ed
-
Congrats Bryce .
