Title: Hop Hornbeam

I am wondering if anyone has any input on a minimum size Hop Hornbeam to cut. I found a couple saplings on some property I have access to. They are about 4-5 inches around. Figured I'd pick your brains asto wether I should cut one or check back in 5-10 years. HaHa

That size will work,cut or split in half and make two bows.Remove the bark for the back of the bow.

Actually a 4" tree is good for at least 3 staves or 4 if you split it right.

 4 inches  I believe he meant in circumference, not in diameter. That's probably too small  for more than a bow that has one side removed with a hatchet rather than risking splitting it.

I meant 4-5 inch diameter. They are really straight trunks. Thanks for the input I'll let you all know how they come along.

4-5" diameter should be plenty big enough.

If they are 4" at the small end then they are good for 4 staves each with a good split.
