I call this one One Nip up, One Nip down. 51" long and 50# @ 26". I backed the working limbs with rawhide for security reasons. Trust me it needed it. Slathered some acrylic paint on it for looks. I didn't heat treat this bow at all and I am still impressed with how good Black Locust is.
The bow hardly took any set.

Perfect bend....I love seeing locust shortys :D
-
Nice one! I can't believe you got that much weight and draw length outta such a short stave. Great job!
-
I love you see your bows. This one does not disappoint. I am currently working on a BL bow love the stuff. Not that short but very inspiring to say the least. Nice work ;)
-
Wow, that is one impressive bow Jon! Gives me some hope for future projects, both for black locust and a hunting-weight shorty I'd like to pull off.
-
that is one sweet bend.
-
I'm beginning to like all of these shorties being posted. Very nice job on that one JonW!! Can I ask how wide you started with at the fades?
-
You are a master of the short bow Jon.
-
Thanks guys. I have made several "long" bows lately, but the short ones are what I like.
Briar Jumper it really is easy to get that much weight out of a short piece of wood. You just need the gonads to brace it before you would think you need to.
Fred I laid it out at 2 1/2" but narrowed it some during tillering. It finished at more like 2 3/8".
Clint that means a lot coming from you. You are no slouch buddy.

Man although its not my typical style, that short pyramids profile really does it for me. Makes me want to try one in the near future. Awesome bow!
-
A short pyramid, huh. I haven't seen too many of those, she looks real cool, Jon!! 8)

You're cranking them out again.Masterful job JonW.Can we say Ishi?......LOL.
-
That sir, is a bow. Just want to get the old man drooling, eh?

That is a sweet bow. I have been wanting to try that same design in osage like the one in Ham & Alleley. That bend looks nice.
-
You nailed that one Jon! I'm really digging the whole thing! To my eyes the tiller couldn't be any better. Josh
-
Thanks again fellas.
Carson this design is awesome in Osage! I made one that was a little shorter than this one and drew 29" at about 60-65# if I remember right. The tiller is a bit more tedious than a typical pyramid because of the narrowed bending handle. Make that the last couple inches of the tillering process. Also start a little wider than you may want so you can do some side tillering to fine tune it.
-
Nice work on that shorty Jon, from the looks of the bend I'd bet it packs a punch at that draw length and weight. Got a cool primitive look to it as well. You really get those short bows tillered out nice. I gotta make a string now and grow
some nads to string up that short piece of osage you sent me, think I have it floor tillered enough now to try and put
it on the short string. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't afraid of making a real shorty like the big boys do. ;D

Nice little bow!
-
i like that one a lot! The paint job reminds me of old Bear recurves.
-
Wow!... I got a 52" pc of BL...now i got a design to go for it... Brian
-
Wonderful shorty! Respect!!!!
perfect tiller on that little bow
-
Nicely done on the shorty, Jon. Tiller is spot on.

Nice! And a little tip flip to reduce string angle. Well done. Great tiller BTW.
