Title: First Self Bow Kill

This is my first post, but I've been reading on here for awhile. I finished my first self bow a few days ago.  It is Honey Locust 68" long and pulls 25# @ 28" It's a lot lighter than I wanted it to be, but It's my first and I'm happy with it. The handle is wrapped in some leather I had, and the arrow rest is a broken spear point I found. I took it hunting this morning and I shot under a gray squirrel and missed by inches.  When I got to the other side of the field I spotted a rabbit. He was coming closer. I drew my bow slowly, Afraid of getting spotted.  I let him come as close as he would, and when he turned broadside, I dropped the string. My aim was good and he jumped up in the air with my arrow in his side, then ran off and disapeared into the brush.
  I had some doubts about how fast my light weight bow would bring it down, but my shot placement was good and he didn't go far. I couldn't believe it, A bow I made, made meat!
  This was my first hunt with a self bow, and the first time I made an instinctive shot.  It was awesome, but now I can't wait to get a deer! ;D

Thanks for the comments :) I went hunting this evening and seen a rabbit ten yards away. I drew back, picked a spot and released. I hit him, but he was facing almost straight away from me and my arrow pulled out in the grass and I couldn't find him. :-[ I got over four inches of penetration, but it was getting dark. Maybe I can find him tomorrow.

Nice shot,Rabbit season must have opened early where you live. ;) :) We can't hunt them till November. :)

 It opens up Sept.1st here. I can't imagine having to wait until November :)

Now your hooked, keep on hunting and pretty soon you'll get your first deer with a selfbow!
