I bought this bow in an antique store in Portland, OR for $40. It was made in 1997 and it's still a shooter. I was wondering if someone can help me identify the wood based on the grain on the back. It looks to me like red oak. And also does anyone know this bowyer based on the signature? Any details are appreciated.

that there in vinemaple. it has a stain on it but theres no doubt.

Yep, definitely my favorite white wood. Vine maple looks pretty good with a stain; I should try it some time.

You got one heck of a deal on that bow. It looks to be nicely made.

That was a bargain at twice the price! Cool! Josh

It looks like it might say Gary Grassi. I googled that name and found some information on a guy that passed away earlier this year. It sounds like it could be him from reading his obituary. Search for Gary S. Grassi. He lived in Iowa.
