My camera woman was busy roasting a chicken and making a salad in the kitchen and couldn't get outside to take the full draw pic for me before dark so heres a preview. Hopefully tomorrow night I'll be able to post more.
51" ntn knobby buckthorn pulling around 50# @ 24". More to follow. Greg

Sweetness. Great handle.
-
One more pic
-
Does the handle work on this bow?
-
Handle moves a little approaching full draw Steve. Had a natural set back at the handle that you can see from the braced photo. The thickness of the handle is only a little wider than the limbs at the fades, belly side of handle is built up with thick cork under the grip wrap.
-
Sweet Jesus BB, ya done gone over to the dark side....that's a bow,sir

-
Awesome bow!!!
-
Oh my! I'm diggin it so far
-
Thanks guys I'll get the full draw up tomorrow.
Yeah Rich I'm headed toward the darkside alright and I'll let you guys in on my motivation for making this bow. You see I hunt on public land and opening day while I was standing among 10 wheelie bow guys, all of 'em dressed in the same camo head to toe and all with the latest in high tech bows and all looking at me suspiciously I had a thought.
The next bow I make would be even more primitive looking than the osage selfbow I was holding at the time. You see I'm a sick s.o.b. in this respect and I get a kick out of bucking their trend. ;D ;D ;D
-
Super cool looking bow so far. Can't wait to see it pulled! And way to show the wheelie guys what real bows are! ;D
-
Looking good !!

Great work Greg. That is a fine looking weapon. I always look forward to seeing your work posted. That one is a contender for BOM. Can't wait to see the full draw.

Now I wont be able to look at Greg's bow without dirty thoughts running through me head. This full draw pic might just be too graphic for these eyes after that seed was planted!!

Real nice. Hard to tell, but it looks like antler tip overlays with the light and dark colors together. Tops it off just right.

-
Looks like another of your signature tortured sticks to me!
-
This one tortured me Cody. >:D This is one I showed you in the hatchet stage a few months ago.
Full draw coming up, got the wife to snap a pic an hour ago,
-
Thanks for all the comments guys, really appreciate it although Capt. has left an image in my head that I can't erase. ;D O.K. got a pic of the bow drawn, couple inches short of full draw cause the photographer (wife), and I can seem to get our timing together and I won't hold at full draw more than a couple seconds after having a couple pop on me.
This bow is from the batch of buckthorn I salvaged from a pile destined for a wood chipper. Five attempts from this batch broke as I was building the bows. Showed this one to Cody (misslemaster), a few months ago while in stave form and he suggested I chase a couple rings as the top couple rings of the sapwood looked punky. Well he gave me good advice it appears as this one seems OK after a few hundred arrows. Here's the details;
- 51" ntn buckthorn pulling around 50# at 24"
- handle 1 3/8" - fades 1 9'16" -midlimb 1 1/2" - tips 1/2" widths
- handle padded with cork on belly and covered with dyed deer skin, jute, string of beads and mink tail fur trim.
- coloring on limbs is raw umber and burnt umber earth pigments, with acrylic paint accent dots .
- Finish is heated in blend of pitch, mink oil & beeswax (boot grease), an experiment.
- tip overlays are whitetail deer antler.
-
Wow! That is a beauty through and through.
-
That thing is awesome. Nice profile.
-
Man I really love your bows. One day I sure hope to own one. The finish is perfect for that bow. Great job
Matt

Looks good enough to these groggy eyes...my wife does the full draw pics for me too,and I'm pretty anal about getting it right so we end up taking a dozen pics before i get what I want...lol  don't know how she puts up with me ::)
-
That bow looks fantastic. Very well made from the finish, handle and the final tiller. Bravo.
-
Oh yeah! That's a Badly Bent bow! You definitely have a personal flair to your work Greg that is easily recognisable. Very nice work Sir! Josh

+1!! Buy the time we're done, my wife is rolling her eyes! "You're soooo fussy! Why can't you be as fussy about changing the empty toilet paper roll, mister?!"
-
very nice work man. perfect for a ground blind. love the grip.
-
The tiller is pleasing to the eye as well!
-
Thanks for all the kind comments guys, again it is really appreciated. :)
Tweaked the tiller just a little after studying the picture and consulting with one of the masters on this site and put it on the scale to check draw weight. I had guessed at the weight and turns out it ended up at 53# at my 24" draw according to my scale. A few more coats of wax and a couple hundred more arrows thru it and I'll decide if it's hunt worthy.
