Title: Hafting Question
Post by: knapperhead on November 02, 2013, 11:30:15 am
I am going to haft some stone points on my home depot bamboo shafts. Should I insert a dowel first? Also, should the notch for the point line up with the nock ? Thanks,
Matt

I do not insert a dowel on mine-most of the dowel would be lost in carving the notch.
I make the notch for the head perpendicular to the string nock so that when the arrow flexes back and forth during paradox, it will not "catch" the wind- that is it will fly straighter.

I haft stone and trade points right into the shafting without foreshafts. I usually cut the nock and point slots the same direction.
