Does anyone know the story behind this cover? It has a hunter with a single pack goat .
It can be found on page 68 of the Oct/Nov 2013 (vol 21issue 5)

I may have to go back and look it up , my memory is not that good !
Seems like there was a story in that issue of a fellow that took his goats with him as he hunted and what have you !
Thinking he was in the Pacific NW ,
I remember a pic of a goat in a boat going down a kinda rough river and wondered how much time they must have spent together since no goat I have been around would get in a boat with me , recipe for disaster for sure !
Must have been a good story that even that much stuck with me !

It just has a comment about the cover that states "Matt of Ancient Way drawing his self wood bow, accompanied by one of his best pack goats." Seems like I read an article about this but its been years.
-
From what I can remember, it was a couple named Matt and Molly who lived off-grid, and wrote articles for the mag for awhile. Don't know what ever happened to them.

Sorry that issue did not get put back where it belongs so I don't know where it is right now !
I remember having having all the old issues out last year to do a special remembrance write up for the Marshall Primitive Archery Rendezvous , and it did not get filed back away properly so who knows were it is in this mess I call a shop !
I know it is falling apart from use but am at a loss for where it may be right now !
The rest of them seem to be in order but it is not here !

Goats make outstanding light pack animals. They can go places no horse, mule or donkey can. They eat dern near everything and many take to training very well.

I looked up the table of contents for that issue, but it didn't mention an article to match the cover.
-
I think most of their articles were in Volume 1, if I remember correctly.
-
The article is in the summer 93 issues ( Volume #1, issue#3). The article is about Matt and Molly who with their children are/was living the primitive lifestyle in Montana. The story is about how pack goats fix their need much better and cheaper than horses. If your interest is to start using pack goats. They recommend a book called " The Pack Goat" by John Mionczynski. I hope this helps with the information you were looking for.

I'll have to check it out, thanks

I remember the article but all of my issues are at Chris Cades farm.
