This is a bow that I've been working on in my spare time for the past few months. Sinew backed Osage, slightly over 57 ttt and 56 ntn, 55# @26". The tip overlays are whitetail antler as is the arrow rest. Strunk style leather wrap dyed with mahogany leather dye.
This was my first attempt at using a combo of homemade hide glue and knox gelatin. I probably won't use it again. I've done sinew jobs with TBIII and had zero issues but this one was a constant battle of delamination. I finally ended up putting a later of TBIII under most of it to keep it in place. Maybe my glue was faulty because I roughed up the back, cleaned it with acetone, and followed Gordon's yew build along for the use of hide glue. Guess it's just not my specialty. lol Hope you enjoy...

FD pic. Will have a better lighted fd pic coming shortly.

Sweet looking bow Sled! I really like the profile on it. What did you use for the little bend at the tips?
-
Nice bow!!! Love the contrast between the grip and the skins. If I may ask, what adhesive did you use for the antler tips?, as I am debating doing the same with elk antler on the hickory bow I am currently workingon. I have heard of issues with them not staying glued on
-
Good job sled!
-
Thanks, gentlemen.
Stickman - I heated the curves into the tips with a form, clamps and heatgun. Was originally going to go with a heavy curve, but once I started curving the tips, I liked the very subtle look better.
Mohawk - I used loctite gel super glue for the tip overlays and for gluing on the arrow rest. I have a hard time getting the surfaces perfectly flat to mate, but I made it work. I'd imagine you could wrap part of the overlays with sinew if you're worried about them coming off. Little extra insurance never hurt.

Thanks Sled....

That is a fine looking bow. I really like how the colors compliment and contrast.
-
Thanks, Gordon. Kind of reminds me of a yew bow that someone on this forum made. I can't quite recall who it was, but it was such a beauty that I used it for inspiration. lol

Thanks a lot fellas. Shoots very smooth and quiet. I finally got a set of trad arrows recently, so I'm still getting use to the difference in how they shoot. Though I think that I shoot more consistently with trad than with carbon.
-
Just a better lit pic of the fd, the one outside was hard to see in my opinion...
-
great job.very nice bow.don't give up on hide glue.
-
That is one fine looking bow - nice work. Is the belly somewhat rounded? - kind of looks like it in the last pic but I can't tell for sure.
-
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
-
The belly is mostly flat, but it has a slight ovaling on the edges. Thanks much, guts. Really appreciate it.
-
Beautiful work!

Great looking bow! I'm new to the primitive archery seen but I'm learning every day from people like you. When gluing the tips on, is that done after all straightening work?

It's not so much the adhesive more the method of preparing the tips and overlays - they must be perfect mating surfaces.
Oh and great bow!

I corrected twist, aligned the tips, floor tillered, then put the tips on before sinew and tillering. Then I taped the tips and trimmed the skins with a razor. Ended up being perfectly smooth, no transition.

That is a very pretty bow. The leather handle came out real nice and the color compliments the skins perfectly. Beautiful work.
-
Nice looking bow.

I had missed this one somehow. Glad I found it. Very nice.

Beautiful bow! well done. 8)
-
nice bow! really nice
-
Thanks for the info, I will try to work out the twist first then work on getting the stave a bit straighter before putting too much work into it. If I get a chance I'll post a pic and and for advice.
-
That's a sharp looking bow! You've done that stave justice :)

Thanks everyone. Thought the snakiness around the knot would give me hell. I think the sinew backing helped a lot.
