Title: The "Icing" on the cake
Post by: FlintWalker on December 22, 2013, 08:14:42 pm
In 25 years of bow hunting, this has to be the most satisfying season I've ever had.  I haven't gotten to spend as much time in the woods as usual this season. But the days I've been lucky enough to go have been nothing short of amazing! I've missed a big buck, killed a turkey, had several close encounters with some of the biggest deer I've ever seen. (even managed to kill one :) )  And finally...I killed one with one of my stone points ;D   It's just a young doe, but I'm as proud of her as any buck I've killed 8)   The shot was 20 yards from a ground blind. And the arrow struck about 2" behind the last ribs, just below center and poked out about 2" behind the other side shoulder. She ran a total of about 150 yards.  I shot her Saturday evening,  but didn't recover it until the next morning.
I need to thank WillH for trading bows with me :)   He used this same one to kill a nice buck earlier this year.

Congrats Shannon. My first selfbow kill was a 55 pound doe.  You couldn't have slapped the smile off my face.  That'll be some good eating to boot.

I'm still grinning like a possum ;D
Otis, I have somethings for you.
Osage Outlaw, the only way I could ever top this season would be a big buck with osage and stone. ( I'm planning my strategy for next year already :) )
RyanR, WillH made the bow. I cut the billets a few years ago, and he crafted this awesome bow from them!  I've never shot ANY bow better!   I don't shoot this bow hoping to hit my target. I shoot it expecting to :)
Bob, it feels good. I feel like I accomplished something.
Thank you all! I surely could not have done this without this site and especially Pappy and the Twin Oaks gang. Can't wait to get back down there!

Outstanding way to end the season!  Congratulations.  I know what you mean about taking a deer with a self bow.  Nothing else compares to it.   :)
