Title: Alabama Delta river cane
Post by: Zuma on January 10, 2014, 11:24:25 pm
I have not personally made many arrows but since I am retired I may persue the art some.
I have friends that are stoked on making abo shafts back home. I will be spending some
time in the delta hog hunting.
Any ideas that would help me bag some cane for shafts is requested.
I have access to tons of bamboo, is it the same?
Thanks you-all
Zuma

Bamboo is not the same as cane. Bamboo usually has nodes that are knobbier and closer spaced than cane.  Cane usually has a smooth node. I have never been down there but you should be able to score some good cane while down there.  I would think to cut it like any other shaft. Extra long and  about  3/8 thick.

Well, with ya alls help I did get into the cane while trying to pop a few wood ducks.
I had to keep up with the boat captain so I only collected 6-8 shafts.
I will get a photo up tomorrow. We saw no hogs but we had a warm safe day.
Thanks you all, Zuma
PS thanks Steve for the bamboo clarification. I think I will load the roof of the van with big
stuff for other projects and some for shafts as well
