Title: European ash elb style bow
Post by: dbb on January 28, 2014, 05:37:38 pm
My latest piece of ash  >:D
European ash 73" ntn 51# @ 30"
I made slimmer horn overlays instead of traditional "Chesspieces"
Heattreated belly and no finish only burnished.
Not really happy with the handle,i may redo that.

Very nice elb. Worked lots of poor ash recently loads of early growth and little late. Convinced this is the key with ash. Thin early thick late is the only way to go and your stave has it.

Very nice ! Beautiful and graceful in it's simplicity! Will you be adding some beeswax finish or similar? I believe  your beautiful burnish job  will have been for not, if exposed to water.

Thanks for the kind words guys!  ;D
Very nice elb. Worked lots of poor ash recently loads of early growth and little late. Convinced this is the key with ash. Thin early thick late is the only way to go and your stave has it.
I bought 2 staves and both made shooters, but i can see what you mean.
The earlywood is brittle and crumbly so you dont want much of that.

look at all those arrows lol
You like the collection?  ;D I have bows from 35 up to 70# i shoot regularly so thats the price to pay  ::)

Thanks ,and yes it is very smooth and nice.
