Feel free to move this if it is in the wrong section. As much as it does not really show much as far as his methods go, but this is awesome to see a hero to many of us making his own equipment.

I wonder if ol' Howard would be embarrassed by how we hold him up as such a holy prophet?
Side note: On Turner Classic Movies today there was a movie short of Howard Hill sailing on the coast of Mexico to hunt marlin with a bow. They started with him shooting flying fish off the deck of the boat. Imagine that! Archery hunting, fishing, and wingshooting ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!
Once they collected a few flying fish, they used them as teasers behind the boat to draw in the marlin. When the marlin came within range, he hit them with a modified fishing arrow with a harpoon style head. He shot two of them in pretty quick succession and reeled them in on conventional saltwater tackle.
Then for the third one, he arrowed it and the "boy" on board took over fighting the fish from a small rowboat. They portrayed the marlin as an evil killing machine bent on dealing death to any that crosses their path. The fellow in the rowboat handling the oars stands up to smack the charging marlin on the head and falls in as the marlin pierces the rowboat. Just before this you see the marling scooting thru the water at high speed on it's side. The rowboat is suspiciously sliding sideways thru the water as well.
They apparently wanted to make a really cool clip, so they made break-away sides on the boat so that they could pull the marlin thru. It's laughable special effects, even though the rest of the movie short was pretty interesting. The slow-mo shots of Howard hitting a flying fish about the size of a skinny 10" trout is pretty flipping cool!

Nice. The commentator should have educated himself first though. Howard did not use a fish tail splice but a W splice instead.
-
Very interesting...they referred to his bow as being a modern bow...
Could you imagine even suggesting shooting an apple on someone's head these days.....maybe an Osage ball but not an apple.
-
He made 110 lb bow look like a 45 :o
-
250 FPS.......dang, musta been shooting 500 grain arrows with that 110# bow
-
Way cool, thanks for sharing. I like his tillering tree
-
Watched it with amazement. Felt kinda funny watching the "stunt" shots, though. I don't know if I would ever shoot the bow backwards between the legs.... although the subject came up recently about hunting deer in unusual ways. I dunno, I might try it.

Dave , did you see the other clip that was posted on here a while ago with the automatic tillering machine?

Quick poll. How many other people have a tillering machine like that? lol
-
dont have a tillering machine lile that..but perfectly willing to try to shoot an apple ,horse or granny smith,,,off one of your heads if youll just stand still. O:)
-
Fantastic, he sure did like his heavy weight bows.
-
Some interesting snippets there. Looks like he glued in a lot of back set on those billets.
And the horizontal tiller rig :o ???

I think that machine is nothing but cheating, pure and simple. Besides, I don't have room to plug in anything else now that I have a 3D printer set up to make my bows.

First scene with Howard at about 30 secs and then again about 5:20...I noticed he strung the bow push-pull method by gripping the bow above the handle. I know that question has come up on here before regarding lower limb set.

Peddle power JW! Let's keep it primitive. ;) Are you using organic plastic in that 3D printer and running it off solar power?
You slay me. ;D
