I saved the hooves from the elk I shot last fall with the intention of making a gun rack. One pair I skinned as best as I could and took the sinew out of. The other pair was just sawed off. I intended on making some kind of form to put in them and sew them back up. I also need to treat them some how to keep the bugs out. Anyone have any information on treating them and how to make a form?

Check Van Dykes Taxidermy for the forms. Otherwise several injections of formaldehyde will preserve the insides. Also position the hooves in a bent position and tie them to stay in that position while they dry. ...Good Luck

Used to skin out the legs, ditch the bones, tan the hide, and them make wire and sisal forms to sew them around...Pain in the butt, but they won't smell after sitting in a warm house through the summer....Long story there...LOL
