So this bow was a mess. It's certainly one of the most challenging staves I've worked with. This was a small branch I got off of my neighbor's tree. Lol, he never even noticed. >:D I flipped the tips and heat treated the belly. It took very little set. Anyway, here are the photos

There's this nasty knot on the edge but it seems to be holding up fine.

I may go back and mess with the tiller but for now I'm happy with it. I've really been focusing on getting the weight up and this one came in a little lighter than I wanted but I'll just go a little slower next time and make sure everything is just right. I really had a hard time with some deflex in the bottom limb but I think corrected. If I had been able to get that deflex handled right the weight would have been much more. But oh well, I'll just have to go trim the neighbor's tree again ;D

I had to laugh reading the title to this topic, my fiance makes fun of me for the way I say "hick'ry" for HICKORY! kool little bow, I have not tried a branch because they look to gnarly for my skill level. l

Great job Tim. Looks like you had your work cut out for ya.

Tim, Really cool bow with the character 8) That knot on the side is a testament to hickory's toughness. Good work on that bend...

Cool! I'm diggin' it! Josh

Sweet bow Tim. Gotta love hickory. Awesome bow!

Thanks guys! I'll definitely be making serious efforts to cut as much as I can come spring time.

Tim, I think in my book you win the enthusiasm award hands down. Seems you've posted quite a few bows over the last few months and I find that kind of try in short supply among many today. Congrats on all your efforts! I do think bubby is right. Mid limb on the bottom looks like the culprit to me. Looking forward to your next bow tomorrow...or this evening.

Is the unbraced profile symmetrical ? I don't see an unbraced pic so I can't offer any advice on the tiller. It does look cool though! Josh

Lol thanks! Yeah, I may have to do a few scrapes mid limb. The whole stave was just wonky but it seems to be fairly straight in the end. A lot of small dips along the limb. At the knap in this weekend I handed it to Ryan Gill to analyze and he said it was pretty good. I'm running low on staves so it might be another month or two before you see another bow. Might check in the flintknapping section though!
