this was the first osage bow I built, I got the stave from gstonegerg and originally it was a basic flat bow with the tips just flipped a tad, when I built it it was about 65# at my draw, pulled it out the other day and it was heavy, put it on the scale and 75#, no wonder I couldn't hit anything, anyway I went to work on her and here it is so far (http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/Mobile%20Uploads/CAM00405_zpsnorxxqhv.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/Mobile%20Uploads/CAM00405_zpsnorxxqhv.jpg.html)
still have to put some finish to her and such i'll get a full draw when she's all gussied up

got her down to about 50# maybe 47# 64"ttt

Nice bend as usual Bubby...What's making these Osage bows gain so much weight? Second one I herd of lately...
Don

not sure Don, maybe it was dry but not seasoned
-
How long has she been sitting up?
-
don I built her in 2011 and shot and hunted with it hardfor a few years then shot off and on,
-
Bubby, just FYI, same thing with one of mine recently. As I exercised it though it began to lose some of the extra weight. I never touched the tiller on it in any way. It started out nearly 30lbs over where it was. Ended up 11lbs heavy. Not the scale. You can feel the difference now.
-
Really like that one , tiller looks good too, but the arrow is on the wrong side ??? :) ;)

Dbar the second pic is the original f/d from 2011, the bow is now a static, got curly maple underlays
-
Slimbob I shot it for a while and exercised it a ton with no drop in weight, so then I got it in my head for a redo, bub

8) OK, I got it :-[ .....must be my old age......now quit teasing us and show us the up to date full draw >:D ;)

Can't be that....There is no such thing as "seasoning" wood.
I would have responded sooner, but I was waiting for the popcorn to finish popping. I'm ready for the fireworks now!

Looks like a nice one Bub. I have a few old osage bows made about 12 -14 years ago that I ought to put on the scale again and see what's up. Haven't shot them in several years but they were seasoned over sixty five years as fence post before I got ahold of em' and made the bows. That one of yours has a nice bend to it, I'll be looking to see it again after the rework. I'm betting the bend will be good and it will shoot just as good even with the weight reduction.
Finish your work on her old timer and lets have a looksie. >:D
-
old timer, OLD TIMER, hell that's all I got you called it , here's a pic i'm thinking work the inners some more but man she shoots good

It looks like the fades could use a little loosening. Maybe I'm crazy?
-
Nice looking bow bubby.
-
Same thing I was thinking Blair, that's I'm working right now, thanks Trob

I'll reserve comment till you have it done Bub, my tiller eye is all out a whack lately and the last few I've have truly looked badly bent. Maybe I need glasses? ???
