Sorry about the multiple topics for this bow, but it's been quite a journey. After two unsuccessful attempts, I finally put this baby to bed. It's off to it's new home tomorrow morning, so I'd better post some pics! This bow, and it's design, has really tested my skill. I believe it has definitely made me a better bowyer. OK... enough chit-chat... here's the goods:
62" NTN, 45#@27", maple backed ipe static recurve. The static recurves are not heat induced (hence the name), but cut one-piece from stock and then glued to the top of the belly lamination with a horizontal kerf splice, with the maple backing overlapping the taper to the belly of the recurved tip.
Maple, yew and ipe in the grip and riser, with the static tips cut from hickory with osage tip overlays.
It's still winter here... -20C this morning, with lots of snow... sorry no outside shots at full draw.
I have never been as frustrated and proud of a single bow in my whole life! This was definitely outside the box for me, and in 10 years of bow making, I've never felt more relieved to finish a bow!

I knew string alignment would be critical to avoid twisting while tillering, but that worked out well.
-
Couple more shots of the tips and brace profiles...
-
I would like to see some closeups of the static recurves for training purposes. ;D
Grady
Doh! I posted too soon. Thanks
-
Lastly... unbraced profile showing minimal set... maybe 1/2" freshly unbraced. And, of course, the money shot...
The full draw has already been posted in another thread, but I don't have an opportunity to retake a pic and I wanted to include it in this thread.
I hope you like it!! I sure do! It's very smooth to shoot, does not stack at all with the very low string angle at full draw, and it seems easily as fast as some of my heavier draw weight longbows. I'm going to have to build one of these for myself!

Turned out very nice, looks perfect and a work to be proud of I'd say.
-
ahh the proud papa ;) and you should be that is a sweet bow and quite the adventure to get her to completion, nice bend, bub
-
Not bad at all for a "first" attempt. ;) You definitely need one for your own use. There is just something about a static.

Thanks Pat! A 'first' third attempt! This one took me to the edge and I had a look over the precipice before pullin' her back! I'm glad I didn't give up... this thing is sweet! Truth be told, I already have another glue up done ;)
Maple backed again, but maple static tips this time and no pin nocks, plus it's 2" shorter. It's ready to tiller out... I'll post it when she's done. Thanks, again!

Thanks, Bubby! Proud papa indeed! I'm actually glad this thing is out the door... it's been all consuming for a couple months now! Good grief. I'm gonna starve to death at this rate. :o

That's a looker, Adam. That is a bow to be proud of.

Really nice...Bet you wish you could keep it yourself!
Thats the way I feel when I build and thats when I know its ready to send out.

Great color combination and I love the pic looking down the string. Very nice tips I like the design. Great bow.

Really great bow. Good job!

soooo...is that going to TEXAS???!! 8)
-
Nice looking bow ;)
-
Nice job, by the way I enjoy all the chit chat and the story that goes with any bow. I guess I need to try my curves that way some time soon.
-
Love the bows, but the stories are always worth tuning in for. Very nice Sir.

Nope. Don't send many bows south across the border. This is going to a knife maker in Kitscoty, Alberta.
-
That's a looker, Adam. That is a bow to be proud of.
Thanks, Eddie! And everyone else!
-
What a fine job, Adam! You know.... I was just thinking. It has been a while since your last build a long.....hmmmm.... I think this would be the perfect design for your next one!! ;D
-
That's one heck of a nice bow right there! I bet it shoots like a dream :)

Yah, maybe. Has been a while. I still have a few little things I'd like to tweak on this design, and now that I have this Gorilla off my back, I can settle down and give it some more thought.
The next bit is going to be busy for me. I'm displaying my bows and leather work at our local gun and hobby show on the weekend of the 14-16th, so I'm scrambling to get ready for that. Supposed to be 10,000 people through the door! I've never done this before, so I'm not sure what to expect. Well see. ???
-
Great looking bow and sweet curves! It does look like it pulls smooth. :)
-
I like this bow very much. I like especially the unique way you fashioned the static curves.
-
Very nice, supreme job! And really really nice pictures too, very professional, they could be in a magazine or something, :).
-
Very nice adb,
maybe in about ten more years of bow builds i'll be ready for a laminated static recurve. Good on ya

Good luck at the show Adam
-
I would really like to see a build along if you make another in this manner. This bow is impressive, would like to see how you made the recurves.
-
Beautiful bow, that should make someone very happy. :)

Name that bad boy has to be headed to Ohio :-)

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I appreciate it!
As mentioned, this bow is going to a good buddy of mine who is a custom knife maker. His name is Greg Lightfoot, and he lives in Kitscoty, Alberta. He makes beautiful knives, and I'm trading him this bow for a custom folder. I'm driving out to his place (3 hrs) for a visit, some beer drinking, and to do some shooting. Can't wait to see what he thinks!
I hope I don't get in trouble for this, but he makes knives and not bows, so check out his website: lightfootknives.com

Were you going to snakeskin it originally? That may have been too much awesome overload.
-
Very nice Adam. I've never made a recurve with tropical wood although I started on one many years ago, just never got around to finishing it.
-
As nice as this bow is I just had to add my 3 cheers for Adam to the fray. Really really nice job. Danny
-
Looks good ,Adam! Good luck at the show! Hope that thumb is healing good for you!
-
VERY nice work! The fit and finish of that bow is great. I appreciate your attention to detail, and the full draw looks great.
-
I especially like the tip style you have there adb...

very good looking bow there adb

Thanks for all the compliments everyone... I really appreciate it!

Sorry, Pat... just saw this post. Yes, I was going to back it with SSs. Changed my mind at the last minute, but I just finished another one of these bows yesterday, and it already has WDB SSs. The nocks are a bit different, and it's going to look totally sweet when it's done! I'll post some pics when she's all polished up.
-
That's a great looking bow there! Congratulations on the bow and the great learning experience!
-
Love this bow!!! I am working on one right now that is similar, hopefully as nice. You get my vote.
-
adb, awesome work from one tip to the other...That bow is a beauty, congratulations...

Awesome all around! How did you do that splice?
I have a piece of ipe and maple on my bench now. I was thinking elb or hill style flat bow. Hmmmmmmm. Decisions decisions.
