I'm thinking about buying this tent. Does anyone have one or have you used one? This one is offered by Sportsman's Guide. Pappy has one from Cabela's that is similar but not the same. This style of tent is new to me so I'd like to here the positives and negatives.
Well, I can't get the pic to paste but this is a tipi type tent in olive green with a small black rain fly. It is 10"x10" with a 9" height.
If I can get a pic I will post it.
-
I am impressed you need a 9" high tent.... :-[
I have seen those tents and have heard they are good. Never stayed in one, but some archery guys set one up every year where we elk hunt.
-
I know several guys that had tee pre style tents they really liked them
-
What happened to the dome tent Pat?
-
This is the Cabela version of the 10 x 10
-
That reminds me of those old school guide tents you see in the old hunting pics w/ the wood stoves in them an what not. Pretty cool. I buy the cheapies nowadays. dp
-
I saw it in the guide Pat.it looks just like the Cabelas tent, but at a good price.i say go for it.
-
One more pic of the tent....not sure where that is??? Hmmmm???...
-
Oh man, that was some good times there. Thanks for the memories Pearly. Is the cook going to be at Marshall?
-
Those one-poles are easy to set up. I used to have one in canvas for rendezvous before I went to a wedge tent. I miss the easy set-up!
-
Thanks for the input guys. Pearlie and I made a deal for the one in the pic. 8) I'll give it a test drive at the Classic.
-
I don't know Pat. That tent probably smells like Michigander farts :o ;D
-
He will load his beard with charcoal briquettes and filter it out!

Pat,
I have one of the SG tipi tents and it has been a great tent for the last 5 years, Actually lived in it for 5 months last summer. Have used it in the Pacific Northwest for an Elk camp, In Southern Oregon for Elk also. Very durable and sturdy. Easy to pack in and set up. For the price it was a worthy investment, and am thinking of buying another for a spare. The wife and I will be camping all over Wisconsin and Illinois this summer with the tent again this summer. She is a Wetlands Biologist and we will be marking wetlands through the central corridor of those two States. Great tent and I cannot recommend it enough....Cheers, Rev, Pete

I agree Mohawk13, I have the 12x12 version of that tent from sportsman's guide. I love my tent, we have spent some pretty questionable nights in it down at the lake. Had tornado warnings and even some 80mph burst of wind and it held up nicely with no damage or leaks. I did use all the tie downs. Also if you get it I would set it up in your yard in the sun, take a garden hose and spray the heck out of it inside and out, this will open all the pores. Then let it dry really good, have plenty of camp dry, and after its dried spray the inside but not the windows. Then let it dry, then spray the entire outside with two coats of your camp dry. It's a little time consuming and expensive but I have done this for years to all of our scout tents and those tents and my personal ones have never leaked! We have been in some pretty bad down pours and the snow too.
I would get your tent they are well worth it! Just my 2 cents!

I have the 10x10 like Chris's. It is light/easy to put up and dry so far. ;) :) I have and have had many tents od different styles and this is my favorite so far. :)

I've been strongly thinking about the same style for the Classic this year. 10'10' or 12'12' has been what I'm wondering about...
-
The 10 x 10 is more than enough for two full size cots and all the gear 2 people would need Stevie.
-
I think I'm going to get one of them 10' X 10' myself. Just looked um up and my dad's a member.
Thanks for the idea Pat!! dpgratz

Looky what showed up at my house today. Thanks Pearlie.

You'll like it, Pat, lots of room.
-
Yep, I think I will like it Eddie. I set it up to check it out plus we're getting rain tonight and all day tomorrow then the possibility of snow on Tuesday. Putting it through it's paces early on. Gota get ready for the Classic. ;)
-
What size box did Pearly ship that chocolate lab in?
-
I hope Chris don't plan on rooming with me at Marshall now that his tent is gone. I'm bringing my 1 man for sure now. I already know that I'll be feeding him >:D
-
I'll have room in My Canvas one-poler for Him Paul. Have been told that I MIGHT snore just a bit tho O:) >:D. Bob
-
Lucy Brown was already here when the tent arrived, Clint. ;D ...but she totally approved it. 8)
-
I was gettin ready to order that from Sportsmans guide..they were on sale for like $199 I think... then I happend upon a local auction in my hometown and picked up 2 for $10 apeice.... I love auctions 8)... Brian
-
You don't already need 2 tents to go camping do you Brian. You've only been married a few weeks. ::)
-
Pays to be prepared Pat! ;)... They only had 1 set up, but i figured for $10 I would take a chance on the other tent to.. I think mine are the 12'ers but not sure.. It looked like i could put 4 double air mattress in it with room left over.. As soon as the weather gets right here I will set them up and find out fer sure.... Brian
-
I just looked at mine...its not the same..mine is round at the bottom and doesnt have the half wall at the bottom.. I think its 18'...this thing is huge... I hope it holds up to the Tenn rains, lol... We were gonna rent an RV this yr(honeymoon, lol) but all the affordable ones were booked so were breakin out the tent ;).... Brian
-
This one is from Cabela's and is different from the SG tent. I looked at the Sportsman's Guide one but Pearlie offered this one to me so I took it. Its getting rained on now so we'll see how it fairs.
-
I got the 10 by 10 from SG, $100 member price, Got it set up yesterday as well. Looks like it's gonna be roomy enough for my four person family. It does not have a rain fly, the whole tent is a rain fly. It has two doors and four gusseted windows as well as four plastic windows for light I suppose. It has a round bottom, Pat's square bottom will probably be easier to get a tarp under. Some of the hardware is kinda cheap, but I think it's gonna work good for us. I'm still bringing my old tent to the classic, though, incase it gets washed down stream by a toad strangler. Thanks for the idea Pat, we were in need of a tent and the whole family likes this one. We laid around in it yesterday afternoon and the boys played in there for awhile longer. Have a gooder, dp

I would'nt worry Pat... It never rains at the Classic 8) :o.... Brian
