Title: Success!!!
Post by: woodswalker on March 31, 2014, 12:31:51 am
Finally got one to shoot. This bow I love because I felled the tree last year off our property with my wife and friend. Carried it to see a friend of mine Hatchet bow Dan. He helped with plenty of hands on advice. Well after an afternoon with the rasp. We got her to bend. I carried her home and with the help of my hunting partner " 9 year old daughter " decided on a color. Which was done with simple food coloring. The black was basic craft paint. With the help of Will H, bubby, BOWMAN53, and Clean_Missed I was able to make a grip from one of my wife's old purses. ( with permission of course ).  Hope guys like it; she turned out 45# @29. I had thought about taking the tips of and renock her to get a few more pounds. Please tell me what you think. Thanks to all the guys on here for all the help if it wasn't for you guys I would still just be reading books and watching videos. Hope to see you all at the Tenn. Classic.

Congratulations! I really like the paint and design on the back, Nice bend and I wouldn't change a thing. If you do decide to pike it a few inches you may gain 4-5 lbs. Nice like it is though...

Thanks for the kind words. I'm going crazy waiting for the bark to start peeling off again. I cann't believe I forgot to tell the wood. It is pignut hickory Blackhawk. I love the way the wood looks after you peel the bark off the hickory.
Thanks again guys
Casey

I had thought about taking the tips of and renock her to get a few more pounds. Please tell me what you think.

I have "fixed to death" more bows than I wanna admit.  Sometimes, and especially in the case when it is your First Bow, it's better to take it as it is and make another with an eye to different dimensions if you just gotta have something heavier.

"Mended beyond repair"  >:D
