Hope you're not getting tired of my bows – here is number 2 from http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,45969.0.html
This bow is made out of billets, which are seasoned over 60 years. When I got my hands on this wood it was a trunk about 40” long and 10” in diameter. It was standing in a dark cellar for all the years. When I touched it the bark fell off like powder – never seen that. This wood has the most beautiful color I've seen on Black Locust, the color is even inside the wood.
The bow I've made from is more or less a flat bow with very thin and stiffened (overlays) lever tips. The transition from limb to lever is done like the shape of the Eiffel tower. The bow measures 58½” ntn.
The overlays on Handle and tips are bloodwood. The triangles on the back are done with wood dye. Handle is hemp. I tried to get all colors matching string, painting, wood, overlays.
Enjoy

Beautiful bow. Those are really extreme levers, nice design!
-
Beautiful wood and bow...I love the darker locust ;) next time id make the levers longer to take more advantage of what a lever is supposed to do ;) but that's just me

Every time I see that Simson created a new topic, I get this flush of excitement, knowing that it must be something good. This topic is no exception. Another beautiful example of your work and your style! All the components just come together naturally in this piece of art. Although I don't normally like sharp corners, the edges in the handle and the transition from limb to lever just fit - even with those sharp corners. These small levers, created by the unique usage of tip overlays, are fascinating.
We never get tired of your bows, Simon. Please don't stop posting them.

Cool locust bow and I like the paint design too, also has your usual spot on tiller. I gotta say Simon that your one of those guys that can build bows of many different designs and do them all very well. Keep on posting them, I wanna see them all. :)

Wow, that is a beautiful design and is just a delight on the eyes.
-
Oh my gosh. I dream of such things. Incredible bow, you lucky dog!
-
Great job Simon. That locust is getting the best of me but I can see its potential. Your bows are of a different kind of pretty. The blood wood with the locust looks great.
-
Very nice bow! Any pics of handle splice? Beauty!
-
Those tips are craaaazy thin. Looks great!

Stunning looking bow, and those tips are out of this world.
-
Tired of your bows! No way Jose, inspired and humbled. Nice work as usual
-
Mighty fine work Simson. You make some great stuff.
I love the look of Black Locust. One of the prettier woods.

I think those are the coolest tips I've ever seen on a bow! I wouldn't really call them 'levers' per say because I don't think they're long enough to provide the advantage, but they are certainly outside the box. Nicely done! Your bows are always a pleasure to view.
-
THAT IS AWESOME!

Beautiful work.

Beautiful bow and amazing color in the wood. Bet it will zing an arrow. Craftsmanship to envy. Great work.

Thanks all for your nice comments, guys!
Very nice bow! Any pics of handle splice? Beauty!
Sorry, no pics. But it's a simple z-splice

Yeah, you and blackhawk are right - it isn't that long that it can be called a lever. I would have made it longer if I have had a longer billet. I haven't made a real mollegabet so far, but sometime I will do one for sure.

Good lookin bow and the decoration is really fitting .

That ROCKS!

Like all of your bows, the tiller on this one is perfect. You must really have an eye for it.
Lovely bow.
