Title: How long?
Post by: Blob on April 15, 2014, 03:18:46 pm
How long should I wait after heat treating to start the tillering? I don't have a moisture meter.

You will get a lot of answers. Here is mine: 12-24 hours max.

did you heat treat the long bow you just glued up? after you glued it up?

I wait 24hrs for most bows, but I'm in nice humid Washington. you could leave the bow in the bathroom through a few showers and then let it sit in 'normal conditions' for a day if you want to be sure you rehydrate properly.

Nope, Glued it up about 24 hours after heat treating

Glue introduces moisture to the wood, so a better question would be: "how long should I wait for the glue to dry before I stress my bow?"

In my opinion, the answer to both questions would be 36 hours or more.

Personally I've been giving wood glue 24 hours to dry and as for heating I just wait till it cools, maybe 2 hours.  Seems to be working fine for me.
