Just finished this one up. Sinew backed Osage, 52" ntn 50#@28". The skins are Cobra (naja atra) I stitched the hood pattern in to the handle wrap just because I thought it looked cool. The horse hair tuft came from my old paint gelding. The Osage came from a fence post that my grandpa cut and set in the early forties. It was pretty well cracked everywhere. The design is basically1" wide at the handle, 5/8" at the tips. Everything else was dictated by the cracks and knots. There is a section on each limb where it narrows to 1/2" and then widens back out. It looks ugly but it doesn't hurt anything except aesthetics. The sinew came from Gus and was the usual outstanding quality I've come to expect from Gus. This bow shoots extremely hard. I will truly be happy to hand it off to Cipriano at the "Classic". If I keep it any longer than that, I may not ever let go of it! BTW, "Palo Feo" is Spanish for "Ugly Stick". Thanks for looking! Josh

That looks like some real poison...Bend looks good and never seen Cobra skins on a bow. I like the handle to.

Looks great Josh. I'm getting to like those short bows that will handle a long draw better all the time.

Nice Josh, real fine tiller and cool looking skins. It's a one of a kind in the looks department but not ugly to my eyes.
I'll have to see it up close at the Classic, glad to hear you're gonna be there again this year. :)

Nothing ugly about that one. Holy COW! Nice job! Love the look of it and the tiller is spot on. Wow! "Well done" is an understatement for sure. Just awesome!

I sure am glad I will be going to the classic for the first time this year, maybe I will at least get a close look at that sweet bow.

I'm truly speechless and that's hard for me. Like Pinecone said and many others have said. Absolutely amazing work. I've wanted a Josh bow from sometime and man am I getting a Josh BOW ;) I love the name, but it's an oxymoron which only makes everything about this bow that much more special. In sure before Josh started on it; it was fitting of it's name. However, now it's like the Ugly Duckling.. The story behind the bow is as special as the bow it's self.
The curves and bend on such a short bow are just amazing!! The handle is outa the ball park and cobra skins???!!!! And I thought I was the snake man? I'm just a bat compared to these snakes :o Those are the pretties and most interesting skins I have seen. The horse hair connects it to my native roots and the handle with the head hood? PRICELESS!!
With this bow my man card just went up in stock. ;)
Can't wait to meet you Josh in a few weeks and share a campfire with you and fling arrows from this fine old fence post.

Well that is one, pretty bow, Doc. I need to get to working on the piece you sent me, I assume it's from the same post. I've been looking at it trying to figure out what style to make and you just showed me what to do. Can't wait to see it at the Classic.

If I had this load next week I could have met Cipriano at the Yegua gathering. In stead, I'll just pass it to Gus for delivery. Oh well it'll still get to him quicker than if I mailed it. I saw this bow hangin out with lots of other pretty bows at the Classic! It really stood out too. The black and white contrast was stunning.

Well Josh, I can't be the only guy on PA to not say how impressed I am with this little bender! Nothing ugly about it! Put me on you list buddy. After this thread I'll be lucky to get one before we're using walkers and canes and pushing arrows into targets. ;)

Got a chance to see the Bow and meet meet Mr. Josh over the weekend.
And now having held "Palo Feo" in my own hands, and hearing the Bow's history from her maker, I like her even Better...

Gus....truly...the pleasure was all mine! A fine repast and fine spirits with a fine family. It just doesn't get any better. I highly enjoyed your hospitality and your cooking! Those boys of yours are a hoot as well. Their polite and well mannered demeanor did little to conceal the mile wide ornery streak both of them surely share. Yes Sir, those boys are most definitely deserving of there Daddy's obvious pride. Last but not least, many thanks to Miss Tania for tolerating a wayward trucker at her table and in her home.
