Title: Grace Land
Post by: criveraville on April 22, 2014, 09:36:05 pm
Need some input on Grace Land please. Diego and I will be going through Memphis next week and I'm considering taking him. Would a ten year old get much out of it? Is it worth the price of admission?

Thanks,
Cipriano

Never been there.  But Drew Cary, when he was a stand up comedian, as part of his monologue, said, " just got back form Graceland.  got ripped off by a dead hillbilly.  They buried him in the back yard.  But where else would you bury someone named King?"Now before the Elvis brigade starts sending evil thoughts, and rants, I liked Elvis.  In fact one of the guys I worked with, was a professional Elvis Impersonator.  Very talented.  Anyway, i think you can get all the info on charges, etc. by emailing the Memphis Chamber of commerce.  Might be interesting to see his bowling alley, and movie theater.  I don't know what else they have there.  You could buy Diego an Elvis peanut butter sandwich.  :P ;)  Are you taking Diego to the classic?

I was a big fan when I was growing up as were my folks. I took the family 20 years ago, or so. It is really interesting to see what a country boy's idea of living high on the hog was back then....especially when you see how our rich entertainers live today. In answer to your question, It was a worthwhile trip back then for nostalgia's sake, but haven't had a hankering to go back and Pappy may have a point!

If your a huge Elvis fan its prob worth a stop....but if not then eh...skip it. I have family just south of Memphis across the border in Mississippi, and we spent some times around Memphis....and I can think of a whole lot other things to do there besides Graceland....besides I'd rather go see Jesus in the real "Graceland" one day anyways ;)

I've never been to Graceland, but I'm in Memphis right now.  Pappy isn't kidding about the bad parts of town.  Be careful!  Josh

My son's buddy who hangs out with us at lot just got back from a trip there with his grandpa. He can't stop talking a bout it! It must have made some impression on him.

The difference between Memphis and Beirut circa 1980s is that Memphis has barbeque not falafel.
