Title: Locust throwing sparks?
Post by: DLH on May 13, 2014, 12:08:43 am
Anyone else had this happen before I have heard of it with osage before. I thought I hit metal cutting a log this afternoon but it didn't dull the blade like metal would. What causes this just the wood being so hard?

Grit in the bark. First few swings sometimes give a spark or two. Found a nail almost half way into a one-foot trunk once :o

Yep hard stuff, when it is seasoned you can hardly drive a nail in it. it is used for fence post around here,we nail up the wire before it seasons completely for that reason. ;) :) :)

Daniel, are you cutting on someone's chain link fence again, trying to get a "fence post stave"?
