Now that the rain let off some here are some pics from today.
Yesterday I got a real long package from Pappy and the Twin Oaks gang. It took about 2 seconds to get open, not that I was excited mind, and out slides this magnificent proper English Yew long bow made by a proper Englishman.
72", English yew, finely sewed leather grip and pearl arrow strike, very finely crafted horn tips with single side knocks, opposing. Execution of the entire bow is absolutely top flight. I got her strung and slipped out between the rain clouds and put a couple arrows through her.....man what a sweet pea!!!! Draws smooth as silk, arrows hit like a hammer, and it shoots dead on point of aim at 20 yards, with my hunting weight arrows.
There's a picture of Dells bow next to one of mine, no difference there, right? I also made a stringer as my 66" reach was a smidge short for the 72" bow ::) I will get some high rez pics of the bow's knocks and strike plate and add those here later. Had to whistle "I'm a lucky dog" all the way around the yard, hell everybody thinks I'm nuts anyway >:D
Mr. Dell the Cat, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, same to Pappy and the Twin Oaks bunch for gettin her in one piece and for the fine example of English Bowyery. Believe that the local deer population is gonna have a wanted poster out for ole Dell 8) Thank you Sir!!!!

Cheers Rich, I think we did a great trade, and thanks Pappy for getting the last leg of its long trip
That looks like a warbow in your hands, looks like you are giving it a decent length draw :)
Del
-
Ya I know Dell, least I dont need a ladder to shoot it :o That full draw is 26" I'll have you to know, pretty damned good for a midget 8) ;)

Pappy
So if Rich is going to kill the king's deer does that mean he is going to Canada to hunt this fall? >:D
Grady

Kinda like seeing a kid wear his Dad's boots ;D . We're just so used to seeing you with those bendy handle bows . It'll be different to shoot ,for sure!
-
Lucky you Rich, looks smooth as butter.
-
Grady, not one chance in hell >:D
Lostarrow, give the old midget a break, eh? ::) ::) ::) besides when that arrow slides clean through that deer it aint gonna care how stupid I look >:D

Now you have no excuse for putting anymore holes in your shed with that rig 8) ...glad I got to see it down in Tennessee ;)

Glad I got to SHOOT IT down in Tennessee! How's it feel to shoot one of my hand-me-down bows, Rich? Granted, I only got about 5 arrows thru it before Del wrestled me to the ground. He may be ancient, but he's wiry! I still have marks where he was gumming my left ankle!
But seriously, you are lucky Del is a master of disguises. It's rare that TSA allows an international arms dealer to slip thru security carrying a deadly weapon of war such as that. I bet everyone of French descent in your area suddenly is having cold shivers up and down their spines!

Haaa haa ha!! You're too funny, JW. That is one looker of a bow and you're one lucky guy, Rich.

For some reason that bow looks even longer now than it did when i saw it in TENN. ::)
That full draw pic looks like your about to rip your shed roof loose when you release.
-
Here are some more photos fellas.
JW ...The only thing my new world ancestors feared was some PO'd Native, with a scalpin knife, come calling regarding his wife and/or daughter >:D >:D >:D
rich
OK Turtle, yuck it up bud ;)
-
Now that is a real treasure Rich and a beautiful bow Del...I'm just not used to seeing Rich with a bow that long ;)
Don

I was given a proper demo on how to draw a war bow by Del with that bow. It involved elbowing a ninja like a proper bloke ;D
Great bow built by a great guy that went to a kinda ok guy ,I guess. >:D
-
OK Keith I been called about everything but never even close to OK, hell yer givin me a big head. ;) and you Mr. Burchett got to quit pickin at the short guys, eh? 8) >:D
-
Rich, that is an awesome bow. I had the pleasure to meet Dell at the classic and it is really great that you guys got to trade bows. When two guys whose abilities I truly respect from two different parts of the world get to do something like that - well, it's like I said before - The Classic is a place where all sorts of good trails cross. I bet it shoots sweet, eh? :D
-
Super nice looking longbow, nicely done Del. Congrats on getting that beauty Rich, nice to see a generous guy as yourself get get such a nice gift. Does look a little odd though to see a post of you pulling back a bow of the old country design and length. :)
-
You lucky dog, Rich. It looks like a very worthwhile swap. I would like to see you tiller one that long over your knee. ;D
That bow sure looks good on you. Good job Mr. Cat!!
-
Beautiful bow! Use it in good health, Rich. Jawge
-
Thank you George, I will.
Kenny, cant even string it bare handed, how the hell could I tiller over the knee :o
Mr. Bent, I'm the first to admit that it's a damned fine bow. I have other "long" bows that shoot very well also but this "all England" longbow is something I would have never had or even seen if not for Dell's generosity.
Mr. Rhodes, you know for a fact that I got at least one more long bow and both shoot very very well, hope to kill some deer with both. I've been blessed with the folks I've met since joining up.
Thanks for all the kind words folks, even the jokers, eh :) :) :) 8)

It's fun to rib you, because you know it is all in good humor and comes from the heart. Enjoy that skinny stick!
-
Nice. Great bend on that one.
I have always wanted a bow made out of yew.
-
Lucky bum! Nice Bow Del!
-
Congrats on the bow to both of you fellas. Hope to have my hands on a true long bow someday.
PS: you're not really a midget are you?
-
Just remembered, that's one of the bows that was on TV in the "Tudor Monastery Farm Christmas Special".
So it's got a bit of a story to tell it's grand kids.
Del

hey Dell, thats a way cool bit of information....sent you a PM also
Marco, no I'm not but gettin ribbed about how I'd need me a ladder to shoot a real bow, >:D pokin fun at myself, eh?
Arrowind, yes sir I most definitely am that
hunterbob, seems to be a "fair" bow wood ;)
JW, I will do that, sir. I'm a little nervous to take her to the deer woods, however. I'd like to put 1 or 2 down and then put her up for target shooting. I hope she gets very little abuse out there in the woods. In the process of making some "wann-a-be" English arrows 8)
-
Congrats Rich. What's the weight on that baby?
-
Dan, I dont really know and will not put it on the tiller tree, to scale it. It feels about 50# @ 26" and arrow flight is similiar to my other 50# bows. I'm callin her 50#
rich
-
Dang Rich. That is one nice bow. You are one lucky dog. I like the pic of the short bow next to the longbow. Great job on that bow Dell :)
-
50# it is then. Too bad it's wrong handed I'd talk you out of it! ;D ;) >:D
-
The beautiful part of a bendy, circle tiller bow w/o the pistol grip is ya can shoot them equally from either side 8) but ya still can have it ;)

Ya better edit that last bit Rich! You'll have Dan driving like a mad man 3/4 of the way across the country only to find out that you meant to say he CAN NOT have it. All that over a typo. Lol! I had the opportunity to admire that beauty up close and personal. It couldn't have went to a finer fella! Josh

Very nice looking bow right there. One to be proud of for sure. Congrats!
