I got this yew stave from Kurt Brisky. It was pretty wide, so I cut it in half and got 2 staves out of it. Can't complain.
The stave had about 3/4 inches of deflex, so I tried to put some heavy hooks on it to off set it.
A nearly perfect stave, no twist or character at all, and pretty striking heartwood/sapwood contrast.
Tips are pacific dogwood, cane wrap grip from Carson, and pretty prairie rattlesnake skins from Ted Fry.
60# @28" 64" ntn Rounded belly
bow #7 for me, for sure my fastest and smoothest shooter, and my first bow where my string nocks are ahead of my handle, :)
Thanks for looking!

Sweet bend, definitely looks like a wicked shooter!
-
Classy looker.

That's a beautiful looking bow! Well done. I see you've got a Laburnham tree in background. I've made a few laburnham bows and it is a great wood, as good as yew and very similar with dark heartwood and yellow sapwood. The heartwood darkens with age to a beautiful conker colour. If you do cut a log down it starts to split immediately, so split it straight away after cutting down into staves and seal it and let it dry for about a year (depending on weather where you live).

That's gorgeous, I like the smooth blend into the tip overlays, sweet :)
Great tiller too.

I think you nailed it. Your bow seems to be tillered in such a way that the limbs don't look like they are overstrained at all. I bet that one shoots great for years to come. Finishing work is beautiful too. Really great work.

-
thats a beautiful bow well done.
-
That's a nice yew stick for sure.
But are you sure your drawing 28"? Seems shorter from the picture.
-
Thanks for the compliments guys, really made this noobs day!
Bryce- good eye! i only draw 26", but tillered to 60# at 28", for one of my long arm shootin buddies. its 57# at my draw length.
I usually bring my bows to 27" for peace of mind, you think bringing it to 28" would affect speed?
Either way, 162 fps through the chrony got me very excited. first time breakin 160 :)
dwardo - 1"wide handle, 2.5"long fades to 1 1/4" at the widest. starts tapering to 3/8" at the nocks. not sure how to measure degree of recurve.
rounded belly, I maintained the 5/8 rule, just because I really like the look of it on yew.

wally - as soon as I knew what laburnum was a cut some billets and they are seasoning now. Laburnum grows everywhere in Vancouver,

Slow day here at work, so I am rambling around looking at stuff when a customer walks in wearing all camo. I ask if he is bow hunting and he says he sure is. He talks about his sooperdooperuber wheelie bow. I ask him what bicycle company makes it? He looks at me funny and I grin and show him your bow, Wizzy!
I think he might have pooped a little when he saw it. He was droolin' and ravin' and carryin' on something fierce. I wrote down the website address for PA and told him there is plenty more of this stuff to be seen here. Gave him my phone number and told him I can show him the basics when he is ready to make his first, too.
Thanks for being the bait, buddy! We may have converted a sinner!
-
thanks alot guys!
I'm happy to play any part in converting a wheelie guy!
