Title: Osage deflex reflex 46/28 (No. 44)

Hello again fellers,
was awhile since I was here. I have been very busy, also in the workshop and in organizing a primitive meeting and shooting. I made several bows out of ash, cornelian cherry and osage.
Always have to struggle finding a photographer for the f/d pic, uploading, posting an so on.
I will post some of them when I find the time.

Well, this osage bow goes out today as a 70. birthday present for a friend, so it was the last chance to take the pics … and here they are.

The osage was out of my dark fat stuff with orange stripes – my favorite kind of osage! It is a very beautiful piece of wood, a bit bumpy, a bit snakey and a hole makes a nice charakter. I had to straighten it up and boiled in a touch of deflex and little recurves. She is 60“ ntn and asymmetrical. Tips are buff, the upper with an additional stringer groove. Strike plate is bone. The leather for the handle is inlaid, same surface as the wood.
The bow is braced at 6“, higher than normally – but she shoots best here.
I got an interesting draw/weight graph while measuring the bows weight:
10“ (10,4);
12“ (15,6);
14“ (20,6)
16“ (25,2)
18“ (28,7)
20“ (32,0)
22“ (35,6)
24“ (38,6)
26“ (42,0)
28“ (45,6)
The additional steps are:
+ 5,2; + 5,0; + 4,6; + 3,5; + 3,3; + 3,6; + 3,0; + 3,4; + 3,6;

This makes a very smooth draw

The additional growth ring on the back allows the inlayed leather even on the back

Beautiful piece of wood,I bet it is smooth and fast to boot. He should love that. ;) :)

Striking color in the osage Simon and the bow itself is perfectly crafted, love the looks of it. Your friend is gonna be

Absolutely gorgeous bow Simpson.  A true work of art.  I like the idea of the flush grip too.  Beautifully executed.

Beautiful curves and love the tip overlays, your friend will be very happy and proud to show it off.  What is the material on the tips, I like the satin black finish and the way they feather into the limbs. The contours on the back of the bow really make it a one of a kind.

the horn is water buffalo, finish is self made mixture of hardening oil

yesterday Alfons has tested the bow.
Lightning fast, quietly and very quiet.

Thank you for the reply Simon and it looks like your friend is very happy.  I hope to be as fit as he is when I reach that age.  A true role model on how to grow old!
