Thought I would post this bow, seein as how Mr. Rhodes was giggling the whole time since he sent this stave. >:D It was a very thin, highly triangulated split that was barely 1" wide to start. I got 90% of the splitting tear-outs at the 7/8" wide size so left her at that. No straightening or heat corrections. You can see in the braced pic that there's a couple of whoopty-doos but I tried to just tiller around those, in the full draw you can see that the tiller is not perfectly circular but the bows is drawing smooth and shooting hard so I'm not sure I'm gonna scrape on it anymore.
Here's the stats; 50# @ 26", Osage, 50" ntn, physical weight is 10 1/4 ounces with string and finish applied. The stick averages 7/8" wide but varies up and down the stave to slightly less and some-places 15/16".
I'm posting this now cause Howard is gonna get hacked on this thursday and hope he sees it before that.....good luck with the surgery brother.
Any comments always welcome

You made that ugly stick look real pretty at full draw ;D
That's gotta have some serious punch to it.

Nice Rich. I bet you see half circles in your sleep man.

Thank you fellas, much appreciated from you 3 8) It is a good bow so far.

No matter how pretty we make them, it's the sweet shooters I value most. Nice work Sir. Tiller looks smooth.
-
Absolutely Mr. Slim, at least for this hunter 8)

Nice job coaxing a killer outa that sliver of Osage. How thick is the side profile Rich?
Don
-
Hey Don, It's .790" average in the center 12" then tapers to.38" near the tips. The center of the bow is a "D" section (like an English longbow) transitioning into flat rectangular limbs. I don't believe that the limbs have a smooth even taper angle because I followed the edges and tiller just enough to make the tiller as round as possible. Hope that helps.

Looks like a stone slingin' killer to me ol buddy! I dig it! Josh

Thanks Josh, a lot of stock in your opinion

I like that Ice-Pick Rich, looks like you got quite a nice bow from that split. No heat straightening needed, you sure that was from Howard? >:D When I saw him this spring he was wrestling a bow out of some of the most crooked
and g'narly osage I've seen, he must hoard the nasty stuff for himself. >:D
-
He must have made a mistake >:D

Nice bend! ;)

;D I knew there was one of them half eye specials hiding in that little sliver! That is a sweet bend on that bow Rich, but then again, every one you post has great tiller. I will send you some of this crooked stuff that Greg was talking about if you like - but it should come with a warning label. >:D
I appreciate the thought my friend. I may not be on here quite as much next week, but i will look in and get a vicarious thrill from what everybody is posting. I am already suffering from withdrawals! This is the first time I have gone two weeks without making shavings in a few years. Hopefully it won't be long till I am back at it. Take that little yellow stick hunting for some of those big fat Michigan deer!

Full draw looks great!

I guess we need to coin the phrase "a Half Eye bend" or something like "a Rich bend" for all your bows. They all have that sweet half circle bend, for sure, and that one is no exception. :P

Thank you Soy
Mr. Rhodes, All I can say to you is good luck Thursday brother, and I aint scared of no twisty stave ::) maybe can't make it into a bow but aint scared >:D
Falcon, thanks bud
Dang Ken, I didn't invent a circle tiller, just really like the look of them and the way they perform
thanks again fellas,

That lil' stick ought to make some meat, after all it is Osage ;D.
-
Super nice. Real clean at full draw. Is that a artificial sinew string tho? If so...huge energy waster.
-
Thanks fellas, I am aware that the artificial sinew is not fast flight >:D, but I use it because it looks a lot like a "gut" string and the bow will still shoot my 600+ hunting arrows real well at 20 and under. Just a personal choice is all.
