This winter my goal is to start a horn bow. What type would you recommend for a first time composite builder? I do have experience with sinew recurves flat and longbows so I'm not a complete virgin. I do know that I love the mongol style, but my family is of hungarian decent. One other question. Do you all recommend maple for a core or can I use osage, which I have a lot of.

renacs,, the Hungarian /Magyar is one of my favorite bows, I have made several and sold them ,, I have 2 now,, one ready to open up,, and a finished one im hunting with this season,, the siyahs and handel sides have antler and bone plate additions.. ill try to post some pics later

here is the Magyar I will be hunting with this season,.will show a braced and full draw pic on the morrow

What type of antler and why is antler used over horn or bone?
-
Horn isn't very stiff plus its heavier than antler.

How does bone compare?

Osage does not except glue like maple. More of a chance for failure after spending 50-80 hours on your bow. I'd rather spend a couple hours looking for a good piece of rock maple. Birch, cherry and hhb are good too if I remember correctly. ?
