Title: Heat Treating Questions
Post by: Gaust on September 17, 2014, 10:52:42 am
After tillering the bow and shooting it about 50 times, I decided to add some reflex by heat treating to correct a small amount of set.  I've left the bow in the garage where the humidity is about 90%.  How long will it take for the limbs to regain its MC?  Right now my moisture meter reading at the handle is 8% and along the limbs is 0%.  And what MC should I be shooting for before bending the limbs and checking the tiller and weight again?  This is hackberry, btw.

George, generally a few days is enough for re-hydrating after heat treating. Where do you live? Is the R/H there high or low normally?

I live in Austin, Tx.  Just got some rain finally and the humidity is high, which normally it is during the summer.  Thought I would leave it in the garage to speed things up.
