Title: Turn your head for a minute
Post by: Marc St Louis on October 08, 2014, 11:29:20 am
I don't know when this Moose went through but these tracks are fresh, it rained last night so they have to be.  I didn't see them when I went out this morning to my shop but they were there a few minutes ago.  He walked between the car and the house never touching the mirror and there wasn't much room to go by.  The last pic shows the full size of his print with my size 13 shoe for comparison

Bullwinckle---Yeah. Why couldn't you steal something with bucket seats?

Well Eddie, if I shoot one you'll have to come get the roast cause I don't think it will ship very well  :)

I do live in the country.  This kind of hijacking is ok.

This is most likely a bull and I knew he was around because I saw signs out back the other day.  Probably the same one I spooked a couple years back, he was with 3 other Moose.  Moose hunting has been severely restricted around here so he is safe.  A calf on the other hand.....

Honestly, Marc, I thought at first it would be mighty cool to live where moose might walk by close up like that.  Even cooler than that black bear on PatB's porch swing.  Then I got to thinking about the likelihood of surviving a bad encounter with each of those animals.

A bear might swat you a few times, maybe take a bite or two....but a moose?  They are known to spend the day stomping the corpse in between breaks where they chew their cud or browse on the brush nearby.  You are safe, I am not buying the lot next door to you anytime soon.

Keep a weather eye out for ol' Bullwinkle.

I have to admit that I was a bit more cautious when I went down to my shop after dark last night.  It's ok, I own the lots on both side of my house and the lots on the other side of those and the lots on....... :)

Don't own a trail cam Zuma but I was actually thinking of getting one the other day just to mount in the driveway.  It's actually how he left the yard, tracks go right up to the road.

I went Moose hunting about 15 years ago about 30 miles away, all I had was a calf tag.  Never saw a calf, did see a few adults.  When I got back I went for a walk down the road and low and behold there was a fresh set of cow and calf tracks on the side of the road no more than 100 yards away from my house and heading towards it.  Those Moose are SMART.

Marc
I hope we see the interlopers that were checking out your ride.
Bullwinkle could still be a suspect. Here is something from wicki.

"They gave him the name "Bullwinkle Jay Moose,  " after Clarence Bullwinkel, a car dealer,"
I have a great respect for these regal animals and I have a feeling they like you.

I caught 3 different cows in 2 days, one with 2 calves on my trailcam.  It's sitting up near my buddies place on Pine Lake Road, near Bonfield, not more than a half a KM away from people houses.   I think that's pretty close to you, right Marc?   There's definitely a lot of moose up in them woods. :)

Sounds like you might have to build a bigger porch!]
