Title: tree id please
Post by: ssgtchad on October 19, 2014, 02:50:02 pm
It's growing on the side of a creek. The wood is very dense,  and is loaded with thorns although there isn't any on this tree, the same tree across the field had small red berries.  I think it might be Hawthorn.  Thanks for the help. ssgtchad,
                Condalia Hookeri or Brazilian Bluewood.
Family: Rhamnaceae (Buckthorn family) is a native to Texas especially the San Antonio river basin. Google Brazilian Bluewood and see what you think?
                                                                                                                               Don

the pictures and the berry description remind me some kind of Piracanta
A picture of the berries would be very useful

Thanks Don. Buckthorn family. I'm thinking should make a fine bow if the feel of the wood tells you anything. It's dense and very straight.
