It's growing on the side of a creek. The wood is very dense, and is loaded with thorns although there isn't any on this tree, the same tree across the field had small red berries. I think it might be Hawthorn. Thanks for the help. Not Hawthorn. Hawthorn is basically an Apple.

I oonly know English hawthorne. It has thorns and little red berries but the bark and leaves are not at all like that

ssgtchad,
Condalia Hookeri or Brazilian Bluewood.
Family: Rhamnaceae (Buckthorn family) is a native to Texas especially the San Antonio river basin. Google Brazilian Bluewood and see what you think?

the pictures and the berry description remind me some kind of Piracanta
A picture of the berries would be very useful

Thanks Don. Buckthorn family. I'm thinking should make a fine bow if the feel of the wood tells you anything. It's dense and very straight.

Pyracantha (fire thorn)
