Haven't posted a bow in a while but that don't mean I haven't been building them! It's been a busy summer with work but I managed to finish a few. Now that fall is here and I have some time I thought I'd share some. This piece of wood came from a good friend of mine Shannon Walker. I believe he cut this tree back in '08 and found some super snaky billets in one section. They were spliced together and a few were given out to some lucky folks. Pappy made an awesome bow from the sister stave last year and even won bow of the month with it. This piece was given to me as a challenge and a challenge it was! It went to the caul for heat corrections more than a few times before I tried getting a string on it. After I had it out to 20" or so I decided to flip the tips a bit. All in all it held together and turned out pretty well I thought. I hope to make some fine table fare with it in the coming weeks! Anyways, here's some pics... Thanks fer lookin!!

-
Oh man Will, that thing is beautiful! One of the snakiest ones I've seen! Well done sir!
-
man, that's a nice piece of work Will! Did you accent the light to dark spots on the copperhead skin with black, or is that natural? The pattern really seems to stand out more than most I've seen..
-
Cool bow singer/songwriter Mr. Will Harrison! Your digging those light ones the last few years.
-
Wow, your work always impresses me Will. Outstanding work
-
That is stunning. Beautiful bend and wonderful craftsmanship on display right there. Thanks for posting that.
-
Wow! Nice work. Thats one of the most snaked bows I have seen
-
Ya know, I think that using sister snakey billets like that makes for a well-balanced bow. My thinking is that since it has symmetrical curves, all of the weird off-center forces end up equal and opposite. Therefore, it can end up balanced overall, and shoot perfectly smoothly. That's my theory, anyway.
-
Thanks for all the kind words you guys! It really means a lot! Pappy taught me everything I know about handling a stave like this so I give him credit for giving me the know how to tame this beast. He is the true snakebow master!
Blackcoyote- those are the natural skins. I just glued em on :)
Pearly- yes I like em in the 40# range. I can shoot em better, lord knows I need all the help I can get on that front.
-
That has got to be one of the sweetest looking character bows I have ever seen……. That one has BOM written all up and down those curves! Great job!
-
Wow, will that is the nicest snakey I have seen. That curves are really crazy. I know how hard it can be to bring that snake in balance.

-
This is the most beautiful bow I've ever seen. Love it, everything about it.
-
Is that unbacked? I'm pretty new to this and I'm just blown away as well as jealous of the beauty of bows like this. How do you know if it is safe to round off the edges and stray away from the plain rectangular bow design?
-
Welcome to PA Ole hickory! Yes this bow is unbacked. Im not real sure how to tell you how to know when it's safe to round a bow to this degree. I've built many bows and I'm kind of a "throw caution to the wind" kind of bowyer these days.. Honestly it's probably better to stay more rectangular. The way I've rounded the whole bow to an oval crossection places more stress on the back and the belly. But I like the way they look and haven't had one fail like this yet so there ya go.. :) just lucky I guess.
-
Will, I really like how your so humble about all of the attention you have gotten from this bow. Your a stand-up guy in my book. Would like to meet you someday. I have shown your bow pics to a lot of people, even some that ain't Bowyer's and the reaction is always the same. Mouth drops open and the word "WOW" comes out! That's truly amazing craftsmanship with a beautiful artistic touch! Congrats again, Patrick
-
Thanks Patrick :) I don't look at it like I'm getting the attention. It's the wood that's special, I was just lucky enough to come across it. I've been making them for over a decade now still feel like I have ALOT to learn. That's what keeps it interesting for me :) Always something to improve on :)
-
Amazing bow will. I hope to one day be on that level and have Osage haha
-
That's the coolest bow. Great job
