Title: Arrows for the Grand Baby Girls
Post by: lesken2011 on October 31, 2014, 09:11:01 am
I have 2 grand baby girls that live out of state that are 3 & 4 years old. They stayed with us some last summer and were facinated when Papaw was working on bows. I decided to make them one for Christmas this year and I started with the arrows. I made hundreds of arrows when my 3 boys were shooting 3d tournaments in the '90s and used 5/16 dowels to make theirs since they were a little older at the time. I decided to use 1/4 in dowels for these and was happy to find nocks that would fit as well as reasonably priced tips. I made them 6 each and made sure to make them differently so they would not fight over them. I think I am still seeing pink in my sleep. I used dark pink for the crown dip on one batch and light pink on the other. I used walnut stain on one and mahogany for the other. And last, I used 2 barred feathers and one solid feather on one batch and the opposite on the other. I also tried my hand at printable labels I printed on the ink jet which turned out pretty well. Here are some pics my wife took with her cell. They're a little blurry. Sorry.

Now it's time to make the bows!

Damned Ken, those arrows are as nice as any that can be made. Had to laugh out loud when you mentioned about the arguements. Grandbaby's are the best, good on ya bud.

Thanks, Rich. My wife let the cat out of the bag when she posted the pics on facebook, so they have seen them already. Gotta get their bows done, now. Maybe I can keep that a secret! ::)

I got to deliver the quivers and bows to the girls for Christmas. Here are a couple of pics. No close ups of the bows, though, since I used some not so primitive materials. ::)
