This was yesterdays work, about 7 osage logs worth. Have about 8 more osage logs to split into staves today plus the hackberry logs.
This would be considered a small amount of work for the Outlaw Man, but it sure kicked my butt. ;) I did send a message to Clint asking how to handle splitting the bigger log and he advised me on the finer art of log splitting. Basically he said just don't swing the maul like a girl. ;D ;D
Got about 20 splits of osage yesterday some of which will be split further into more staves. Heading back there in a bit to start on the rest,

and more...

Viewing the pics makes me tired . . .
Good luck to ya today!

Wish I was headed your way to help with all that work. Nice haul!
-
That's a nice bunch of Osage Greg. I sure wish we had that up here. Is that whole row of trees Osage? I would probably work myself to death trying to get ALL of it.
-
Nice Greg....that ought to keep ya busy the rest of your life
-
Nice score Greg. Those look like nice ones for sure. Now the work really begins, what with the debarking and such. Danny

Dang Greg. That's a good load of yellow gold. Hell of a lot of work but worth every bead of sweat
-
What no snow? Nice haul bud....that'll keep ya busy for awhile, unless ya go all Blackhawk on them staves ;D
-
You don't need to strain yourself buddy. Just leave it laying there an I'll take care of it :)

Looking at them makes me jealous, great haul greg

Looks like you handled those logs with ease Greg. That's some good looking osage. The sapwood looks pretty thick. Have fun getting that off ;D Thanks for posting the pictures. Makes me want to go out and cut some wood.
-
Nice! Good ol' Illinois osage.
-
I'm drooling ....

Got it all done today thanks to the guy in the picture below. Cody showed up with sledge and wedge in hand to tackle the tough stuff. He may look a little thin but that guy is strong and hard working, he's also very focused on the task and most importantly he has youth on his side. :)
We threw quite a few splits back into the reject pile do to flaws and poor quality, mostly osage. The hackberry was pretty darn nice, very clean and straight. I'm sure a percentage of the osage I piled in my shop from yesterdays work will also be poor but there are also some gooding looking prospects in the pile.
Next time I am offered some wood from a tree service I think I'll be a little more selective on what I mark for them to leave behind. I'll also be a little more inclined to keep my ambitions in check and error on the side of smaller amounts. ;)
Thanks again for saving me from another day of muscle pain Cody.

-
Ah - the joys of splitting a pile of Osage - good job Guys ! Bob
-
Nice work fellers! Looks like enough to keep you two yahoos busy for a year or so.
-
I have to get Cody over to the shop to pick some more osage out, couldn't get him to take enough home from what was split yesterday. A load will go to Paulsemp too, he can turn 'em into nice bows quickly.
I got a pile stacked, ends sealed with glue and bark soaked down with borer/miner spray. Spare time and
the energy to remove bark and sapwood is in short supply lately. Just realized Bowmo's a local guy also so maybe I can pawn a few off on him too. ;)
-
What a nice guy. Good to have extra help Greg. Looked like a great day. I bet you guys slept great :)
-
Those are some nice looking logs Greg. Great to have some help and sharing. Nice job guys.
-
Looks like a nice haul. It always looks better in the woods ;). That hackberry looks real nice.
-
Y'all weren't fooling around! Looks like a bunch of future bows Greg. Slide some of those "reject" pieces of 'sage aside for me! >:D
-
This looks like hackberry's cousin sugarberry to me...About the same characteristics.

Those look just like the hackberry trees on my place.

Bet they are the same Jim. Too uncanny to not be.
